1. 2007 Congress on Healthcare Leadership
This year the ACHE Congress on Healthcare Leadership is being held in New Orleans, Louisiana March 19-22. Student Associates who do not already hold a compensated position in healthcare management have the option of registering for the student track. Student track registration is only $275, a reduction of 72 percent compared to the full $995 registration fee for affiliates. Student Associates registering for the student track will enroll in special student track seminars on Monday and Tuesday of Congress while also having access to general session events, including hot topic sessions, plus all concurrent seminars on Wednesday and Thursday, and a range of career and networking activities.
ACHE is pleased to offer Student Associates the opportunity to attend Congress at such a significantly subsidized rate. Please visit the Congress section of ache.org to get more information and register online. You also may contact the Customer Service Center at (312) 424-9400 or Contact@ache.org.
2. Scholarships Available to Eligible Graduate Students
Offered annually, the Albert W. Dent and Foster G. McGaw Graduate Student Scholarships are designated for students enrolled in their final year of a healthcare management graduate program. Typically, 15 to 20 scholarships are awarded each year and each is valued at $3,500. Applicants must be ACHE Student Associates and applications will be accepted between January 1 and March 31, 2007. Please contact Michelle Jorgensen, associate director, Division of Membership, at (312) 424-9372 or mjorgensen@ache.org for more information.
3. Fellowship Directory Available Online
Are you looking for a fellowship or other management development program? The 2006-2007 Directory of Fellowships in Health Services Administration is now available. The purpose of this online directory is to provide students and early careerists with a list of postgraduate fellowships in health services administration in the United States and Canada. The directory is arranged by state and the listings represent factual information provided by the sponsoring organization including contact information, number of positions available, qualifications for applicants, term of the program, application deadline, selection announcement date, and a brief description of the structure of the program.
4. Connecting With ACHE Affiliates
We know you are looking for experiences beyond the classroom—real-world exposure to current healthcare management issues and networking opportunities. Use the following resources to try and get this exposure:
- Local ACHE Chapters are a great way for students to connect with local healthcare professionals. ACHE encourages all students to join their local chapter or invite chapter officials or members to their school. Visit the online Chapter Directory to locate the chapter in your area.
- Interact with ACHE officials to gain access to professionals in the healthcare management field. Regents, the elected leadership of ACHE, are encouraged to visit healthcare management programs in their area. ACHE encourages students to invite Regents to be a part of on-campus activities. Visit the Leadership area of ache.org to find the Regent for your area.
- As a Student Associate of ACHE you have access to our online Affiliate Directory. Use this directory to find ACHE affiliates in your area or to search by specialty area.
5. Membership in ACHE Following Graduation
Are you a recent graduate or are you graduating soon? If so, remember that you must advance to Member within six months of graduation or your membership with ACHE will cease. As a Member of ACHE you have access to our online Job Bank, resume-posting service and many other career services that will help you in your transition from student to professional.

6. Credentialing Changes
On November 6, 2006, the ACHE Board of Governors voted to revise the credentialing system, creating a multi-faceted system leading to a single credential, the FACHE®. This was the culmination of a two-year study by the Credentialing Task Force involving extensive research, evaluation and affiliate feedback. The Credentialing area of ache.org is being updated to reflect the changes. Meanwhile, refer to the checklist highlighting the new FACHE requirements, as well as a special article in the January/February 2007 Healthcare Executive.
