RONALD
G. SPAETH, FACHE, RECEIVES ACHE'S GOLD MEDAL AWARD
CHICAGO,
January 3, 2005—Ronald G. Spaeth, FACHE, president
of ENH Foundation, Evanston (IL) Northwestern Healthcare,
has been named the recipient of the American College of Healthcare
Executives 2005 Gold Medal Award. Spaeth will receive the
award on Monday, March 14, 2005, at the Arthur C. Bachmeyer
Memorial Address and Luncheon during ACHE’s 48th Congress
on Healthcare Management in Chicago.
The
Gold Medal Award is ACHE's highest honor bestowed on outstanding
leaders who, through a career of service, have made significant
contributions to the healthcare profession and field. The
purpose of this award is to identify ACHE Fellows who best
exemplify leadership at the organizational, local, state/provincial,
and national levels. The Gold Medal Award recognizes those
individuals who go beyond the confines of their own organization
to continually contribute to the improvement of healthcare
services and community health.
As
president of ENH Foundation, Spaeth leads ENH's fundraising
and development efforts, a role that bridges the gap between
community healthcare needs and service availability.
Spaeth
has been with ENH since 1999, following the merger of Evanston
Northwestern Healthcare and Highland Park (IL) Hospital, where
he was president and chief executive officer from 1983 to
2002. Prior to being named president of the ENH Foundation,
he was chief administrative officer for System Development
from 2000 to 2002 and chief administrative officer for System
Integration from 1999 to 2000. From 1972 to 1983, he held
positions of progressive responsibility at Evanston (IL) Hospital.
He began his career in 1967 as administrative assistant at
The Ohio State University Hospitals, Columbus, and was named
administrator in 1972.
Throughout
his career, Spaeth has held a number of leadership positions
in various healthcare organizations. He is a member of the
Board of Commissioners of the Joint Commission on Accreditation
of Healthcare Organizations and is a past board member of
the American Hospital Association and past chairman of the
Illinois Hospital Association. He has held leadership positions
with the Metropolitan Chicago Healthcare Council, Association
of University Programs in Health Administration, and American
Health Planning Association. An ACHE affiliate since 1970,
Spaeth served ACHE as a Regent for Illinois (1984-1988), a
Governor (1988-1992), and Chairman (1993-1994). He was also
a faculty member in the Graduate School of Business at the
University of Chicago from 1980 to 1984, and an adjunct instructor
in the Graduate Program in Hospital and Health Services Administration
at The Ohio State University, Columbus, from 1973 to 1985.
Spaeth has been active in many community organizations as
well, and is currently a member of the Executives Club of
Chicago, North Shore Chamber of Commerce, Economic Club of
Chicago, and Rotary Club of Highland Park.
Board
certified in healthcare management and an ACHE Fellow, Spaeth
received his master’s degree in business administration
from the University of Chicago and his bachelor’s degree
from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH.
