ALYSON
PITMAN GILES, FACHE, ELECTED TO AMERICAN COLLEGE OF HEALTHCARE
EXECUTIVES BOARD OF GOVERNORS
CHICAGO,
February 28, 2004—Alyson
Pitman Giles, FACHE, president and chief executive officer,
CMC Healthcare System, and president and chief executive officer,
Catholic Medical Center, Manchester, NH, has been elected
to serve on the Board of Governors of the American College
of Healthcare Executives, an international professional society
of 30,000 healthcare executives.
Giles
took office today at the Council of Regents Meeting during
ACHE's 47th Congress on Healthcare Management at the Hyatt
Regency Chicago. She will serve a three-year term representing
ACHE affiliates on ACHE's Board of Governors, the authority
that oversees ACHE operations and member services.
Giles
has been president and chief executive officer of Catholic
Medical Center since 1999 and was named president and chief
executive officer of CMC Healthcare System in 2002. The healthcare
system includes the 330-bed acute care hospital, a multi-specialty
physician practice subsidiary, an independent and assisted
living facility, and an ambulatory surgery center. Catholic
Medical Center is also home to the New England Heart Institute,
which has been named one of the top 100 hospitals for cardiac
care.
Giles
joined Catholic Medical Center as executive vice president
and chief operating officer in 1998. Prior to that, she was
president and chief executive officer of New London (NH) Hospital
(1993-1998) and president of Lake Shore Hospital (1992). Between
1982 and 1992, Giles served in a variety of senior leadership
positions at various New Hampshire-based healthcare organizations.
She began her executive career in 1978 as director of Occupational
Therapy at Shelby County Health Care Center, Memphis, TN,
and moved to a similar position at McKerley Health Care Center
in Concord, NH, in 1980.
Prior
to being elected an ACHE Governor, Giles was the ACHE Regent
for New Hampshire from 1999 to 2003. During her career, she
has held a number of special appointments, including president
of the New Hampshire Association of Healthcare Executives
and trustee of Notre Dame College, Manchester. Giles has served
on the board of directors of the New Hampshire Hospital Association
and numerous other boards in the areas of telecommunications,
insurance, and the chamber of commerce. In 2002, she was named
a Remarkable Woman in Healthcare by New Hampshire Magazine
and was named a NH Distinguished Citizen by the Daniel Webster
Boy Scout Council.
Board
certified in healthcare management and an ACHE Fellow, Giles
received her master's degree in human services administration
from Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester and her
bachelor's degree in occupational therapy from Tufts University
in Medford, MA.
