NANCY
A. THOMPSON, Ph.D., FACHE, ELECTED TO AMERICAN COLLEGE OF
HEALTHCARE
EXECUTIVES BOARD OF GOVERNORS
CHICAGO,
March 12, 2005—Nancy
A. Thompson, Ph.D., FACHE, has been elected to serve on the
Board of Governors of the American College of Healthcare Executives,
an international professional society of 30,000 healthcare
executives.
Thompson
took office today at the Council of Regents Meeting during
ACHE’s 48th Congress on Healthcare Management at the
Hilton Chicago. She will serve a three-year term representing
ACHE affiliates on ACHE’s Board of Governors, the authority
that oversees ACHE operations and member services.
Thompson
is Director of the Office of Medicare Hearings and Appeals
Transition for the United States Department of Health and
Human Services, Washington, DC. She also currently serves
as adjunct associate professor for The George Washington University
School of Public Health.
Prior to her current position, Thompson served in leadership
positions within the Department of Veterans Affairs for 27
years. She was chief operating officer and associate director
of the Office of Special Projects in the Office of Communications,
Washington, DC, from 1997 to 2004. From 1995 to 1997 she was
chief operating officer and associate medical center director
of the VA Medical Center in Washington, DC; before that, she
served at the VAMC in Martinsburg, WV, first as chief operating
officer and associate medical center director and then as
acting CEO and director. Thompson has held a variety of other
positions within the VA, including health systems specialist
for the Midwestern Region, assistant medical district coordinator
for the District Office then in Milwaukee, and director of
the Intermountain Field Office for VA InterWest Regional Medical
Education Center in Salt Lake City.
Prior
to being elected an ACHE Governor, Thompson was the ACHE Regent
for the District of Columbia from 1999 to 2004. She is a lifetime
charter member and founder of the Leadership Veterans Affairs
Alumni Association and a founder and past board member of
the Eastern Panhandle, WV Federal Executives Association.
Thompson is a lifetime member of the Senior Executives Association
and the Veterans Affairs SEA Chapter and was active in Toastmasters
International for many years. In addition, she is involved
in several mentoring efforts, serving as a mentor for interns
in the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities Program,
administrative residents in the VA’s Graduate Healthcare
Administrative Resident Training Program, participants in
the Federal Women Executive Leadership Program, interns in
George Washington University’s Graduate Program in Health
Systems Management and Leadership, and an intern in American
University’s law school.
Board
certified in healthcare management and an ACHE Fellow, Thompson
received her doctorate degree in instructional research, design,
and evaluation and instructional psychology from Brigham Young
University, Provo, UT, and her bachelor’s degree in
liberal arts and sciences from the University of Illinois
at Chicago.
