About the author(s): Tricia J. Johnson, PhD, is associate professor in the Department of Health Systems Management and director of the Center for Health Management and Policy Research at Rush University in Chicago. Her research work has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, Cardinal Health Foundation, Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, the World Bank and Albanian Ministry of Health, and the US Department of Commerce.

Andrew N. Garman, PsyD, is associate chair in the Department of Health Systems Management at Rush University in Chicago. In his practitioner role, Dr. Garman provides a variety of leadership assessment and development services to Rush University and other organizations, including competency model development, developmental assessments, performance improvement surveys, and workshops. An active contributor to evidence-based practice, Dr. Garman has been published in more than 25 peer-reviewed journals and books.
