Avedis Donabedian, MD, MPH, was born in Beirut, Lebanon in 1919. He received his medical degree at the American University in Beirut, and emigrated to the United States after World War II. He wrote the seminal article on healthcare quality in 1966 while he was a professor at the University of Michigan. After publishing the article, which spelled out his structure-process-outcome quality assessment method, he dedicated the rest of his professional life to advancing quality assessment in healthcare. He died in 2000. |
