KHALIQ,
WALSTON, MATTACHIONE, AND THOMPSON RECEIVE ACHE'S
2004 HEALTH MANAGEMENT RESEARCH AWARD
CHICAGO,
July 16, 2004As
winners of the American College of Healthcare Executives'
2004 Health Management Research Award, Amir A. Khaliq, Ph.D.;
Stephen L. Walston, Ph.D.; Steven E. Mattachione, J.D., CPA,
FHFMA; and David M. Thompson, Ph.D., will receive $10,000
to undertake a study titled "The Impact of Hospital CEO
Turnover in U.S. Hospitals."
Their
research will explore how CEO turnover affects hospitals in
such areas as financial performance, service mix, quality
of care, employee morale, and relationship with the community.
In addition, their research will determine what proportion
of CEO turnover is reported as voluntary and will examine
what activities were initiated or suspended in an effort to
deal with the effects of the previous CEO's departure and
the new CEO's arrival.
Using
a Web-based instrument, the researchers will survey hospital
chief executive officers and board chairs to determine their
views of the effects of CEO turnover. To further examine the
impact of CEO turnover on hospital performance, the researchers
will link their final survey data to performance indicators
from annual surveys conducted by the American Hospital Association.
Their research results will be available in late 2005.
