Encourage
Diplomates in your area to achieve
Fellow status!
As
an elected official or chapter leader
for the American College of Healthcare
Executives, you have an opportunity
to encourage healthcare executives
to advance their careers and the
profession by attaining the FACHE® (Fellow
of the American College of Healthcare
Executives) credential.
To support
you in this effort, ACHE has
created sample e-mails that you can send to
your colleagues who are currently CHE® (Diplomate)
status and are eligible to attain
their FACHE credential. In
addition, we have created a suggested
timeline and checklist to
help you keep track of your
contacts. Peter S. Fine, FACHE,
who serves on ACHE’s
Board of Governors, used this
method in the past, and he wanted
to share it with other ACHE
leaders. |

We suggest that the
different tasks in the process be
split between the Chapter leader
and the Regent in your area. Please
use your best judgment to determine
how to implement the tasks.
You can also earn
rewards for your efforts through
ACHE’s Leader-to-Leader Program.
To receive recognition, your name
must appear in the candidate’s
Fellow Application under the question “Did
an ACHE Affiliate encourage you
to apply?”
Phase
1—Initiation
- Brush up on the requirements
to earn the FACHE credential.
This information can be found
at: http://www.ache.org/mbership/AdvtoFellow/fache_credentials.cfm.
- Identify individuals in your
area who are eligible to advance
to Fellow status.
- You may use the ACHE
Affiliate Directory and
search by “CHE” and
either Zip Code or City
to find the Diplomates in
your area.
- For further suggestions,
please contact your Regional
Director.
- Make initial
contact with the individuals
on the list to encourage them
to consider taking this next
step. We recommend that Chapter
leaders contact those who
are chapter members and the
Regent contact those who are
not involved in their local
chapter.
Phase 2—Motivation
- Make second
contact with individuals.
- Emphasize the advantages
of achieving Fellow status,
using personal anecdotes and
telling your own story on
how you completed your Fellow
project. You may want to offer
an incentive for completing
the process, such as an ACHE
logo item available through
MarketNet or another item
that your colleague would
find appealing.
- If possible, you may consider
meeting in person or talking
on the phone.
- Track your communications
using the checklist ACHE
has provided or using your own
tracking method.
Phase 3—Support
- This phase is dedicated to
the people who have made the
decision to earn their FACHE
credential. Keep these individuals
motivated and focused on the
process by sending frequent
communications.
- Sample e-mails
or letters are available through
the links provided above. These
documents, coupled with a periodic
voce mail reminder, help to
keep the individuals focused
when time pressures start to
become a burden.
Phase 4—Congratulations
- Congratulate the new Fellows!
- To determine
if the inviduals have officially
earned their Fellow credential,
you may:
- Use the ACHE Affiliate
Directory and search by name,
FACHE, or area.
- Contact ACHE at (312) 424-9400
or membership1@ache.org.
- In addition to a personal
congratulations call, you may
wish to offer a small gift or
appreciation dinner for completing
this process.
- Encourage the new Fellows
to participate in the ACHE Convocation
Ceremony held each year at the
Congress on Healthcare Leadership.
If you are able to attend as
well, consider coordinating
a celebration to recognize this
important achievement.
Thank you!
ACHE appreciates your dedication
to and support of the FACHE credential.
Completing the requirements and
advancing to Fellow status reflects
the individual’s commitment
to healthcare management excellence
and is an achievement that leaders
can be proud of throughout their
career. Thank you for recognizing
the value of this achievement
and for sharing it with other
healthcare executives!
