Regent-at-Large

Summary:

The Regent-at-Large works with and through the Regents within a District to promote diversity in the membership and leadership of ACHE and its chartered chapters, and promote the Fund for Innovation in Healthcare Leadership.

Responsibilities and Activities:

  1. Governance
    • Serve on the Council of Regents
    • Be willing to accept appointment to committees and/or task forces as the need arises and as deemed appropriate
    • Provide input, as requested, to the Governor(s) assigned to the District

  2. District Diversity Leader
    • Submit recommendations of diverse candidates for appointment to ACHE committees.
    • Encourage and support diversity in the membership and leadership of the chapters within the District.
    • Encourage and support the nomination of appropriate diverse candidates for ACHE’s National Awards.

  3. Promotion of the ACHE Fund for Innovation in Healthcare Leadership
    • Work with ACHE staff to promote the Fund generally and serve as the District leader of the annual effort to solicit voluntary donations by the Regents in the District.
    • Serve as an example to ACHE affiliates by making a meaningful annual taxdeductible contribution to the ACHE Fund for Innovation in Healthcare Leadership.

  4. General Support
    • Attend an ACHE conference or seminar each year (tuition is waived).
    • Distribute two affiliate education tuition waivers per Convocation year (based on individual affiliate need and financial hardship).
    • Award two Regent Awards to affiliates in the District each Convocation year.
    • Establish and maintain contact with the Regents in the District.
    • Promote ACHE's credentials and Code of Ethics.
    • Provide assistance/support to Regents as requested.
    • Serve as a reference and/or interviewer for Members in the process of Advancement to Fellow status.
    • Actively encourage and develop potential candidates for Regent-at-Large in their District.
    • Serve as an ex-officio, voting member of the board of the ACHE chapter of which they are a member and serve as a member of the chapter nominating committee.

Meeting Requirements:

Regents-at-Large are asked to attend:

  • ACHE's Congress on Healthcare Leadership. Functions include a District Meeting, the Regents Leadership Conference, Council of Regents Meeting, Annual Membership Meeting, Regents Recognition Dinner, Convocation Ceremony, Regent-at-Large meeting, sessions, luncheons, and various receptions.
  • The annual Fall District Meeting and the annual Chapter Leaders Conference.
  • Regents-at-Large conference call. The conference call meeting takes place each fall and focuses on Regent-at-Large issues.

Financial Support:

Regents-at-Large of ACHE will be reimbursed for reasonable, actual expenses incurred when traveling to the Fall District Meeting and will be given an allocation at the beginning of the year to cover additional expenses incurred while conducting official ACHE business.

Eligibility Criteria:

The Regent-at-Large must be a Fellow of ACHE and eligible to vote in the District in which they serve.

Term:

Three years

No Regent-at-Large shall be elected to a consecutive term, except a Regent-at-Large who fills a vacancy for less than two years. He/she shall be eligible for election to an immediately succeeding full term.
