| Description/Structure: |
As a central California health care leader for more than a century, Community Medical Centers (CMC) has a rich history of medical excellence and compassionate care. With more than 6,000 employees and 1,100 physicians, it also is the largest and most comprehensive hospital system in the San Joaquin Valley.
CMC is a nonprofit, locally owned health care system that operates four acute-care hospitals and a variety of other health facilities. We provide a full continuum of care from preventive education to outpatient services to intensive hospital treatment to home health.
The intent of this Administrative Fellowship program is to provide entry-level experience to graduates of programs in hospital and health care administration. The Fellow will have experience and exposure to the operation and structure of an academic medical center. This project-oriented program is extremely flexible, allowing the Fellow to work in areas and on projects which match the interests of the individual in alignment with organizational needs. The Fellowship Program will also target Fellows who can bring a diverse background to the hospitals.
Though the program is not designed to be “rotational” in nature, selection of projects will expose the Fellow to as many departments and in as much depth as the Fellow aspires. Sample projects may include:
• Strategic planning
• Process improvement initiatives
• Cost benefit analysis
• Revenue cycle improvements
• Access to care
• Productivity management utilization studies
• Business and program development
• Centers of excellence
• Diversity
• Process flow and work redesign
The Operations Management Departments in each facility will be key contributors to ensuring that the operations of each hospital are as effective and efficient as possible by conducting projects designed to improve quality and operating performance, reduce waste and delays and otherwise promote quality and cost improvements throughout each hospital.
Interested applicants should submit the following information:
1. A current resume
2. A one-to-two page written statement of interest explaining their qualifications and objectives for the Fellowship, and how the experience will advance their intended career
3. A letter of recommendation from the director of their graduate program

| Description/Structure: |
There are four main components to the GLA Administrative Fellowship/Residency program.
1: Executive Leadership- The fellow/resident is considered part of the Executive Leadership team and office and as such attends executive level meetings and potential retreats. Attendance at such meetings allows the fellow/resident to gain a better understanding of organizational issues and policies, planning, and decision making processes. The fellow/resident is also expected to participate in the day-to-day activities that occur in the executive office.
2: Rotations- The fellow/resident will complete rotations through each service line and department. Rotations consist of interviews, tours, and potential projects and can last from an hour to a week depending on the degree of interest and complexity of the service line. Rotations allow the fellow/resident to become familiar with GLA and to learn the inner workings of each department.
3: Projects- The fellow/resident may be asked to join projects in process, become involved in the development of projects, or initiate his/her own project according to his/her specific interest. Projects may also be assigned through executive management as need arises. Typical projects include cost benefit analyses, feasibility studies, quality of care initiatives, performance improvement assessments, program evaluations, and work groups/task forces. Project lengths can vary fom days to months. Fellows/residents will be able to gain skills or expand skills in data mining, financial analysis, database modeling, program development, implementation, and evaluation, as well as management.
4: Mentorship/Preceptorship- Each fellow/resident is mentored by a day to day point of contact and preceptor who work with the fellow/resident to identify strengths and weaknesses and to provide guidance in project and career interests.
