Administration
Instructions for Program Listing
If your
organization offers a postgraduate administrative experience, consider
listing it in the Online Directory of Fellowships in Health Services
Administration. The program listing form can be found on the next
page.
Your program
should meet all of the following criteria:
- The
program should be a post-master's degree practical experience.
- The
program should consist of at least one year experiential learning
and postgraduate training.
- The
program should be designed with the expectation that the fellow or
management associate is accountable for contributing to the organization
by completing specific assignments and by fulfilling defined responsibilities.
The experience should also provide opportunities for growth.
ACHE and
health administration program directors whose many graduates have benefited
from such experiences, urge sponsors to adopt the following recommended
application and selection procedures:
- The
due date for fellowship applications should be either January 1 or
six months in advance of the starting date for the fellowship experience.
- The
date for announcing the selection of the fellow should be March 1
or 60 days following the application due date.
- The
actual starting date for fellowships should be considered negotiable
between the selected applicant and the sponsoring organization.
- The
basic information an applicant should provide in an application should
include:
- a
statement of interest explaining the applicant's qualifications
and objectives for the fellowship, and explaining how the experience
will advance the intended career.
- a
current resume
- a
letter of recommendation from the applicant's program director
and at least one other professional recommendation; and
- photocopies
of undergraduate and most recent graduate school transcripts.
By adopting
these recommendations, fellowship sponsors will obtain timely and comparable
information to use in reaching selection decisions. Faculty and students
will also benefit in two important ways. First, it will reduce unproductive
variation in the time consuming-work of preparing applications. Second,
it will provide unsuccessful applicants with sufficient notice to pursue
other career-entry alternatives while faculty assistance is readily available.
