Post Fellowship Follow-Up
Organizational sponsors have a responsibility to help place the fellow in a permanent position. They can make sound recommendations for the fellow’s initial career choices. They also may consult with staff members about employment opportunities for the fellow.
Many organizations choose to retain the fellow after he/she has completed the postgraduate program for several reasons:
- To help the fellow strengthen certain administrative abilities
- To provide a holding position for the fellow until the individual secures a full-time position
- To employ the fellow on a permanent basis
The organization is not obligated nor is the fellow obligated to accept a position within the organization.
Many sponsors believe their responsibilities continue after the fellow’s initial placement and have chosen to follow their fellow’s progress in the field. They provide guidance and assistance. This extension of responsibility is commendable and desirable. |
