The
field of healthcare management is exciting, complex,
and constantly changing. So too, is public policy.
ACHE has a responsibility to help you navigate these
changes while working to advance community health,
your career, and the profession overall. In particular,
we provide activities that
Increase your effectiveness as a public policy leader
- Assist you in defining and communicating your
public policy views
- Improve the image of healthcare executives to
policymakers
Learn about the American Hospital Association’s Framework for Health Reform, “Health for Life: Better Health, Better Health Care.” Information and resources about the framework include a PowerPoint presentation as well as a video presentation by Richard Umbdenstock, FACHE, president, American Hospital Association.
Public
Policy Statements
By
the nature of the healthcare management field, many
of the issues you face are a matter of public concern.
The Public Policy Statements provide ACHE's
position on certain healthcare issues, and suggest
ways in which you can address them in your organization
and community.
ACHE's
Public Policy Statements originate from affiliate
and staff suggestions and are drafted at the committee
level. The Board Policy Committee then reviews the
statements before they are brought before the Board
of Governors for final approval. Once a new or revised
Statement has been approved by the Board, it is made
available to all affiliates in the following issue
of Healthcare Executive magazine and in the
Annual Report & Reference Guide.
We
hope these Statements, which are regularly
reviewed and updated, are helpful to you as you advance
your career and address increasingly complex and challenging
issues.
Public
Policy Campaigns
Enormous
demands placed on healthcare executives will continue
to be formidable, given shifts taking place in the
healthcare delivery system. ACHE urges its affiliates
to be proactive and to translate social values into
workable healthcare programs.
ACHE—in
support of the U.S. Department of Health and Human
Services "Gift of Life" initiative—urges
our affiliates to advocate organ
and tissue donation and to develop donor programs
in their own organizations. |
Because
ACHE recommends that all healthcare executives
work to support access to healthcare services
for all people, ACHE is raising awareness through
two programs, "Covering
Kids & Families" and "Cover
the Uninsured Week." Click
here for more information about ACHE's covering
the uninsured initiative. |
Public
Policy Education
ACHE's
annual Congress on Healthcare
Leadership is our premier
event for providing public
policy education for healthcare
executives. At Congress, you
and your peers have the unique
opportunity to discuss pressing
national policy with issue
experts. In addition, sessions
are held that address how
healthcare executives can
effectively influence policy
formation.
Periodically,
ACHE may provide audio conferences on current policy
issues. Please check this area and the distance learning
brochure for additional details.
