Frederick J. Wenzel, MBA, FACMPE, is professor and academic director of the MBA program in Medical Group Management at the College of Business at the University of St. Thomas. He also holds a visiting appointment with the Graduate School of Business at the University of Colorado. He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and the Graduate School of Business of the University of Chicago. Mr. Wenzel served as executive director of the Marshfield Clinic Research and Education Foundation for 16 years, then as executive director of the Marshfield Clinic for 17 years. He now serves on the clinic’s National Advisory Council and is advisor to the president of the clinic. He was executive vice president and CEO of the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) and the American College of Medical Practice Executives (ACMPE) from 1993 to 1996. He served on the Accreditation Commission for Education in Health Service Administration, where he completed two years as chair of the Commission. Mr. Wenzel also serves on the boards of Marshall Erdman and Associates, University of Wisconsin Medical Foundation, Health Quality Partners, Fairview Physician Associates, and American Cancer Society, Midwest Division. In addition to writing and teaching Mr. Wenzel speaks at regional and national conferences and consults with healthcare organizations throughout the country. With his colleagues Austin Ross and Joseph Mitlyng, he has published a book on the future of healthcare leadership competencies. He holds a master’s degree of business administration from the University of Chicago and is a fellow of ACMPE.

Jane Wenzel, PhD, has combined experience in the academic environment with her expertise in organization and design to provide services as an instructional designer in the development of virtual classrooms on the Internet. Jane works closely with faculty in the translation of syllabi and course content using the distance learning model to develop Internet-based virtual classrooms. In addition to course design and input, she provides instruction to faculty and students as well as technical support. Jane also works with professional groups and organizations in using this same technology for improving communication and providing continuing professional education. Jane began her own successful desktop publishing business ten years ago providing services to professional organizations, healthcare organizations (non-profit), consultants, and small business owners in southern Wisconsin. She provides direct service and consultation in the organization, development, and production of annual reports, employee and board member handbooks, forms, calendars, educational materials and marketing materials such as newsletters and brochures. Other services Jane provides are technical and grant proposal writing, database management, computer technical support, software/hardware purchase, installation and maintenance. Jane received her doctorate from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and has been published in a number of peer-reviewed professional journals. Jane and Fritz have worked together for the last ten years. Fritz shares Jane’s enthusiasm for online learning and they have made numerous presentations together on the subject. Jane also assists Fritz in all aspects of his teaching, consulting, and work as a writer.
