MARK
R. NEAMAN, FACHE, INSTALLED AS CHAIRMAN OF AMERICAN COLLEGE OF HEALTHCARE
EXECUTIVES
CHICAGO,
March 16, 2002Mark R. Neaman, FACHE, president and chief executive
officer, Evanston (Ill.) Northwestern Healthcare, has assumed the office
of Chairman of the American College of Healthcare Executives, an international
professional society of nearly 30,000 healthcare executives.
Neaman
was installed today at the Council of Regents meeting during ACHE's 45th
Congress on Healthcare Management at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Chicago.
He received the gavel from Diane Peterson, FACHE, outgoing ACHE Chairman.
As Chairman, Neaman will serve the second part of a three-year term in
ACHE's consecutive chairmanship offices: Chairman-Elect, Chairman, and
Immediate Past-Chairman.
Before
being named Chairman-Elect, Neaman served as ACHE Governor for District
4 from 1997 to 2001. Prior to that, he was an ACHE Regent for Illinois-Northern
Cook County from 1990 to 1994.
Headquartered
in Evanston, Ill., Evanston Northwestern Healthcare is an integrated provider
of healthcare services. The corporation includes three hospitals, a 500-physician
multispecialty group practice, a home care services company, and a research
institute; it is also an academic affiliate of Evanston-based Northwestern
University. Before joining Evanston Northwestern Healthcare, Neaman held
increasingly progressive positions at Evanston Hospital, beginning with
administrative assistant in 1974 and culminating with president in 1984.
In 1985, he became executive vice president and chief operating officer
of Evanston Northwestern Healthcare, a position he held until 1992, when
he was named the corporation's president and CEO.
Board
certified in healthcare management and an ACHE Fellow, Neaman has served
on the boards of directors of a variety of healthcare-related organizations,
including the Healthcare Leadership Council, the National Committee for
Quality Health Care, and the VHA Health Foundation. In addition, he is
a member of the American Hospital Association, the International Hospital
Federation, and Health Insights, Inc. Neaman is also a Senior Fellow of
health policy on faculty at Northwestern University and a preceptor for
the healthcare administration program at The Ohio State University. He
received a distinguished fellowship from the International Hospital Federation
in 1980 and was named the Ohio State University Distinguished Alumnus
of the Year in 1988. Also in 1988, Neaman received ACHE's Robert S. Hudgens
Memorial Award for Young Healthcare Executive of the Year.
Neaman
received his master's degree in business and healthcare administration
from The Ohio State University, Columbus, and his bachelor's degree in
business administration from The Ohio State University.
