PART II. FINDINGS: THE 1992 AND 1997 FOLLOW-UP STUDY

This section of the report examines the career paths of respondents to the 1992 study. The purpose of this part of the study was to ascertain the career paths of these executives in the half decade since the original study. The focus of this section is on describing what outcomes have occurred rather than trying to account for them.

As shown in Table 38, 32 percent of the black 1992 study participants and 55 percent of the 1992 white study participants also responded to the 1997 survey. This is, in itself, a finding that should not be overlooked. The fact that the significantly lower proportion of blacks responded to the follow-up survey was in part, due to our inability to locate them. Many appear to have left the field entirely, perhaps as a result of perceived or actual discrimination.
