The Digital Medicine Revolution in Healthcare
This program is funded in part by ACHE’s Fund for Innovation in Healthcare Leadership
Tuesday, September 14, 2010
8:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
In conjunction with the Atlanta Cluster
A wave of change in medicine is coming, and it’s not only from the healthcare reform bill. Innovations in digital medicine are being discovered at a remarkable pace and with infinite promise. World-renowned physician and thought leader Eric J. Topol, MD, director of the Scripps Translational Science Institute and chief academic officer at Scripps Health, will lead this progressive seminar by revealing how wireless digital technology and genetic mapping will transform healthcare in unprecedented ways.
Explore your role in understanding:
- The impact of wireless innovations and genomics in preventative care and the treatment of chronic disease
- How wireless health solutions and genomic mapping will reduce healthcare costs, create efficiencies, increase quality and improve patient outcomes
- The unlikely intersection between genomics and wireless digital technology that is taking individualized medicine to new heights
Dr. Topol will discuss these innovative technologies, current research and the implications for the healthcare field.
A selected group of healthcare leaders will share their experiences with wireless innovations, genomics and personalized medicine while serving as discussion leaders on the progress, limitations, caveats, outcomes and future application of digital technologies.
For those already participating in the Atlanta Cluster, continue your professional growth with this important session. Or, participate solely in this program and learn how digital medicine is revolutionizing healthcare.

Faculty
Eric J. Topol, MD, is director of the Scripps Translational Science Institute, a National Institutes of Health funded program of the Clinical and Translational Science Award Consortium focused on advancing individualized medicine. He is also the chief academic officer of Scripps Health, a senior consultant cardiologist practitioner at Scripps Clinic and professor of translational genomics at the Scripps Research Institute. Prior to coming to Scripps, he served on the faculty of Case Western as a professor in genetics, chaired the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Cleveland Clinic for 15 years, and founded the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine. Dr. Topol’s work in the genomics of heart attack has led to the discovery of key genes recognized by the American Heart Association as one of the top 10 research advances in 2002 and 2004.
He has been a medical innovator in wireless medicine and co-founded and served as chief medical officer of the West Wireless Health Institute. Dr. Topol has been elected to the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences, the American Association of Physicians and has been recognized by the Institute of Scientific Information to be among the top 10 cited biomedical researchers in medicine in the past decade.
