If your organization has a high rehospitalization rate, you might be losing potential patients to other hospitals. In July 2009, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) started tracking rehospitalization rates for hospitals across the country and posting this information on its Hospital Compare Web site. As this data becomes increasingly available, the pressure on you to reduce these rates will intensify.
