FACHE Requirements—Effective January 1, 2007
Following is a summary of the criteria for becoming a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Official requirements are contained in the ACHE Regulations Governing Admission, Advancement and Recertification.
One of the requirements for becoming a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives is passing the Board of Governors Examination in Healthcare Management. Prior to taking the examination you must submit your Fellow Application (PDF). Once your application is approved, you will receive authorization to take the Board of Governors Exam.

To earn the FACHE credential you must also: |
- Master’s or other advanced degree
- Through 12/31/08, a bachelor’s degree is acceptable
- A healthcare management position and two years of healthcare management experience
- If applying without a postbaccalaureate degree, you must have eight years of experience by 12/31/08
- Three references from Fellows, including one structured interview
- Completed application, including payment of the $250 fee (application valid for three years)

- Pass the Board of Governors Examination in Healthcare Management
- Have three years’ tenure as an ACHE Member
- Have five years’ healthcare management experience
- If applying without a postbaccalaureate degree, you must have eight years of experience by 12/31/08
- Complete 40 hours of continuing education credit in the prior five years, 12 hours of which must be Category I (ACHE education) credit
- Participate in healthcare and community/civic activities
