More than Words: Leveraging Governance and Partnerships to Advance Health Equity

The need to address health inequities has become unequivocally clear because of the disproportionate impact of the pandemic among Black and Latino communities. Unfortunately, many hospitals and health systems struggle to make meaningful inroads into this complex issue. Health systems must begin with a candid review of their capacity to address inequities and work diligently across the organization to create a comprehensive and unified response. Even with a strong commitment from organizational leadership and dedicated funding, institutional and system biases resist traditional approaches to improvement. One critical success factor is the extent to which health systems work in partnership with key stakeholders.

The clear objective for health equity initiatives is transforming the healthcare delivery landscape to deliver more safe, effective, patient-centered and equitable care to all populations, especially underserved and marginalized communities. This session introduces participants to key opportunities to partner with community groups, public health departments, major employers and health plans as an integral part of their health equity playbook. Participants will learn about the distinct roles these stakeholders can play in reducing inequities and explore best practice examples and case studies to complete this session with a clear plan of action.

Our experts will provide actionable steps leaders can take to help change their organization and community approaches to addressing health inequities.
