Do You Have the Workforce it Takes to Address Health Equity?

1 ACHE Qualifying Education credit

Disparities in health outcomes driven by the social elements that determine health have been front and center before and throughout the COVID pandemic, and this remains an area where few health systems are able to make sustained impact. According to the Kellogg Foundation, addressing health disparities is estimated to reduce the cost of care in the U.S. by $150 billion by 2050. Having a clear strategy, expanding and diversifying the teams focused on health equity within health systems and across their collaborating CBO partnerships can reap communitywide benefits. As value-based care and reimbursement for SDoH come to fruition, healthcare organizations with the most robust health equity strategies and well-curated teams will be at the forefront, having done the work necessary to optimize team composition and navigate these policy shifts.

This session will feature a real-world case study and introduce a model to assess the maturity of a health system’s health equity approach; provide a methodical and effective health equity roadmap for health systems to follow; give insight into the critical workforce elements health systems should consider as they build their health equity practices; and demonstrate how team diversity and leadership competencies can be used to accelerate the achievement of improved health outcomes.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the link between a well-curated workforce and an effective health equity strategy.
  • Articulate at least two barriers to the pursuit of health equity.
