The Role of the CEO in Transformational Philanthropy

March 22, 2021 Recording
1 ACHE Qualifying Education credit

This program will be structured around elements to shift from transactional to transformative philanthropy in small, rural communities. The discussion will begin with teaching how to credibly articulate a higher-order purpose that is anchored in core human values. We will share the science and data beyond the idea of a succinct, compelling “why” that connects the hospital vision with a longitudinal case statement for philanthropy campaigns. This connection between why the hospital exists and the core reasons donors want to give is the first element in moving beyond transactional philanthropy. Our CEOs and Chief Development Officer will share their perspective on how the essential shift in thinking from raising funds for operations or improvements to mobilizing a community behind a higher cause encompasses ongoing operations at the hospital.

Learning Objectives:

  • Knowledge of the roles, responsibilities and rules of engagement for the CEO and Chief Development Officer in terms of “owning and advocating” transformative philanthropy.
  • Application of effective structures to move from episodic, campaign-driven communications to ongoing, relationship-based models that keep donors meaningfully engaged.

Presented By:

  • Amanda Stevens, Chief Strategy Officer, Hill Country Memorial Hospital/Executive Director, Foundation for HCM
  • Jeffrey M. Fried, LFACHE, Principal, Executive Coach, Consultant, JMF Advisors LLC
  • Jayne Pope, RN, FACHE, CEO, Hill Country Memorial Hospital
  • Michael Eaton, Senior Vice President, BVK Health

This session was originally presented at the 2021 Congress on Healthcare Leadership.
