Ambulatory care has been ripe for reinvention as traditional providers have seen market disruptors like urgent care clinics and retail care providers promise more convenient and consumer-centric care. The COVID-19 pandemic has provided both the challenge and imperative for hospitals and systems to fast-track new approaches to outpatient care. While telemedicine adoption has been swift and effective, it is accounting for only a fraction of pre-pandemiclevels of ambulatory care visits.

So, what is the future of ambulatory care in a pandemic world? What are we keeping, reinventing or getting rid of completely?

Smitha Ravipudi, CEO of USC Care Medical Group, and Dr. David Peng, president of USC Care Medical Group, and an expert in telemedicine, have been on the forefront of the rapid reinvention of an ambulatory system that spreads across five counties and nearly 80 locations. From communications to cost to clinical workflows, everything is changing except the core mission—to bring the most advanced medicine to a widespread and diverse population in an efficient, effective and compassionate manner.
