CNO, Advocate Aurora Health

Mary Beth Kingston, PhD, RN, NA-BC has been CNO for Advocate Aurora Health since April 2018, following the merger of Advocate Health and Aurora Health Care. She joined Aurora Health Care in 2012 as the system CNO. Prior, she was vice president and chief nurse executive at Einstein Healthcare Network in Philadelphia. Outside of Advocate Aurora Health, Kingston has served on a number of nonprofit community boards and is currently serving on the board of the Milwaukee Urban League in Milwaukee. She was recently elected to the American Hospital Association Board of Trustees, 2021–2023.

Kingston was a Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Fellow from 2009–2012 and a 2007 recipient of the Pennsylvania Nightingale Award for Nursing Administration. She was elected to the board of the American Organization for Nursing Leadership (now the American Organization for Nurse Executives) in 2014 and served as president in 2019. In her nurse executive roles, Kingston has been a champion for creating healthy workplaces; she co-chaired the Workforce Safety Subcommittee of the National Steering Committee for Patient Safety convened by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement.

Kingston earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing at West Chester University, a master’s degree in nursing at the University of Pennsylvania, and a doctorate in health policy at the University of Sciences in Philadelphia.
