Biography

Katrina (Kat) Ascencio-Holmes is responsible for Sutter Health’s strategic nursing leadership, advancing nursing education, research and fostering workforce development. She works in dyad partnership with Sutter’s chief medical and quality officer to guide high-quality, safe and equitable care across the system.

Ascencio-Holmes first joined Sutter Health in 2009, helping shape the development and implementation of multiple surgery centers in the Central Valley. In 2018 she became CEO of Stanislaus Surgical Hospital, eventually transitioning to take on leadership roles at Sutter Roseville Medical Center in Roseville and rising to chief nurse executive in 2022. In 2023, she served as interim CEO of Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital, chief administrative officer and chief nurse executive of Sutter North Surgical Hospital, North Valley in Yuba City.

Ascencio-Holmes is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, National Association of Latino Healthcare Executives, American Organization for Nursing Leadership, Healthcare Management Fellowship, Sacramento Chapter of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses, National Association for Hispanic Leaders and Association of Operating Room Nurses. She also served as a board member for the Roseville Chamber of Commerce. She is a nominee for the American Heart Association Women of Impact for 2025.

She holds a master’s degree in healthcare administration and earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Phoenix.
