Biography

Matthew J. Lambert III, MD, FACHE is senior vice president of clinical operations at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital in Elmhurst, Illinois. Dr. Lambert has been a physician and surgeon for over 35 years and has spent 16 years in healthcare administration. He has served as medical director of Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia and as vice president for medical affairs at St. Joseph Health Centers and Hospital in Chicago. In addition, he was senior vice president for medical affairs at Catholic Health Partners, a multihospital system in Chicago.

Dr. Lambert’s work has focused on clinical quality improvement and error reduction as well as operational process improvement and innovation. He is also experienced in the cultural transformation of organizations and in leadership development. He has codirected the Physician Executive Boot Camp for the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Dr. Lambert is a Fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and the American College of Healthcare Executives. He served as associate professor of surgery at the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville. Dr. Lambert received his bachelor of science degree from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, and his doctor of medicine degree from St. Louis University in Missouri. He completed his surgical training at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor.
