<p>Laura Synnott is associate teaching professor at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. She provides operations, project management and strategy-development consulting services to healthcare providers. Ms. Synnott previously served as a hospital operations vice president overseeing ancillary and support departments, as well as construction projects. She has overseen numerous projects including an outpatient surgery addition, an emergency department expansion and a credentials verification organization. Since 1984, Dr. Atchison has consulted with healthcare organizations on managed change programs, team building and leadership development. His clients include senior executives, managers, trustees and physician leaders. He has also consulted the military, healthcare vendors and government agencies on the intangible aspects of healthcare.</div><div> </div><div id="pastingspan1">Dr. Atchison has taught several courses on leadership and change management for ACHE. He has also written numerous articles about motivation, managed change, teambuilding and leadership. His book, <em>Turning Healthcare Leadership Around</em>, was published in October 1990. Kevin S. Cook

<p>Kevin Cook has more than 20 years of healthcare leadership experience. He recently joined Sutter Health after working as a managing principal for Caldwell Butler, a healthcare consulting firm that uses evidence-based methods to improve margin, quality and patient experience. Cook has also served as the COO of Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System, a five-region, 10-hospital system based in Louisiana and Mississippi. He created the operational infrastructure to move the system from a holding company to an operating company.</p> <p>Cook also led the University of Mississippi Medical Center’s health system for seven years. Before joining UMMC, Cook spent eight years with Mercy Health in Cincinnati. While at Mercy, he was a regional CEO, market CEO and hospital COO serving in both Ohio and Pennsylvania. He also worked for Triad Hospitals in Mississippi. Before his career in hospital operations, Cook worked with Caldwell Butler as a Six Sigma engineer and as director of operations at the Premier Innovation Institute.</p> <p>Cook earned his undergraduate degree from Hobart and William Smith College and holds a master’s degree in business administration from Boston University. He served in the U. S. Marine Corps from 1991 to 1999, rising to the rank of major. Cook is a two-term Council of Teaching Hospitals board member at the Association of American Medical Colleges and serves as ACHE faculty. </p>

Stephanie J. Underwood

Stephanie J. Underwood is vice president of Phillips DiPisa & Associates. She has nearly 25 years of experience leading the complex recruitment of highly qualified candidates with hospitals, healthcare systems, academic medical centers and managed care organizations. Previously, she held the title of senior vice president at a healthcare executive search firm based in Atlanta, where she led the firm’s Philadelphia office and chaired its taskforce on children’s hospitals. Ms. Underwood is a Member of ACHE and is active in the local Philadelphia area chapter. Earlier in her career she worked in public relations at hospitals in Pennsylvania and Louisiana. Familiar with Lean organizations’ desires to streamline, yet still attract high-quality leaders, her knowledge of her client base is wide-ranging, demonstrating a grasp of how healthcare must bridge the gaps within science, business and culture. Ms. Underwood received her bachelor’s degree in journalism form Louisiana Tech University.

Leslie Wainwright, PhD

<div>Leslie Wainwright is chief funding and innovation officer, Parkland Center for Clinical Innovations, Dallas. Her experience includes academic research, pharma/biotechnology and healthcare delivery; working with startups and multinational executive teams in creating growth strategies and alternative business models; and evaluating emerging clinical\care delivery technologies. Dr. Wainwright speaks on future of healthcare, enabling technologies, disruptive innovation and emerging business models. Prior to joining Parkland, she oversaw RTI International’s Innovation Advisors health practice, guiding the development and adoption of healthcare innovation. She has held executive roles with Sg2, AVIA and Business Models Inc. William Garrison

William Garrison is a Chicago-based independent health care consultant. He previously led The RTI Center for Health Care Advancement, headquartered in North Carolina, where he leveraged RTI's payment/policy, care delivery and HIT/clinical informatics strengths, enabling transformation. Prior to RTI, he held executive roles with two regional health care systems and a private equity backed provider. With expertise in strategy and operations, he currently helps organizations identify and execute growth strategies. Mr. Garrison's skills in marketing, sales management, enterprise and business-unit strategic planning, and joint venture evaluation and execution puts him at the forefront of change management and business model redesign.
