Hospitals face complicated and continually changing Medicare rules, regulations and guidelines. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ 2014 Hospital Inpatient Prospective Payment Systems for Acute Care Hospitals includes new requirements for classifying patients as inpatient vs. outpatient—now known as the two-midnight rule. It also includes new conditions of payment that include written physician certification as well as requirements for admitting physician qualifications, order timing, administrative documentation and clinical documentation.

This webinar will keep you up to date on the application of current healthcare law and CMS rules, regulations and guidance relative to classifying and billing patients. The expert faculty will explain the ruling and provide practical insights relative to implementation successes, challenges and possibilities.

You'll Learn:

  • To understand the historical confusion around patient status.
  • Details of healthcare law and CMS rules, regulations, guidance and exceptions relative to the 2014 Hospital IPPS for Acute Care Hospitals.
  • Differences between the two-midnight benchmark and two-midnight presumption.
  • To prepare for the likely outcomes of “probe and educate” audits.
  • The practical application and implications of CMS rules and regulations for hospital staff, specifically case management, admitting physician, legal department and billing personnel.

The program will focus on real-world application and implications for multiple functions within healthcare provider organizations. You'll test your new knowledge with interactive polls.
