James E. Orlikoff

<div></div><div>James E. Orlikoff is president of Orlikoff & Associates Inc., a consulting firm specializing in healthcare governance, leadership, strategy, quality, patient safety and system development. He serves as the National Advisor on Governance and Leadership to the American Hospital Association and Health Forum.</div><div>  </div><div>Mr. Orlikoff has been involved in leadership, quality and strategy issues for more than 40 years. He has consulted with hospitals and systems in 12 countries, and has worked with hospital and system governing boards to strengthen their overall effectiveness and their oversight of strategy and quality. He has worked extensively on improving the relationships between boards, medical staff and management. He has written 15 books and more than 100 articles, and he has served on hospital, college and civic boards. He is currently the chair of the board of the St. Charles Health System, Bend, Ore. He also served as the vice chair of the Virginia Mason Health System Board in Seattle. His book, Board Work: Governing Health Care Organizations, won the ACHE James A. Marta Karlov

<div>Marta Karlov is an operational excellence professional with American Family Insurance, Madison, Wis. Ms. Karlov helps design and implement lean deployment roadmaps for organizational culture change. Prior to her current role, she was director of transformation journeys, Catalysis Inc. in Appleton, Wis. She has been on the ACHE faculty since 2015 and is adjunct faculty in the master of business in operational excellent program at Ohio State University. Patsy Engel

<div>Patsy Engel is on the faculty of Catalysis, Appleton, Wis., a company focused on educational programs and resources designed to transform healthcare value, where she teaches the management system curriculum in the U.S. and Canada. Ms. Engel is a registered nurse with 25 years of clinical experience, and a certified asthma educator. She holds a Lean Bronze Certification from the SME/AME (manufacturing associations). Ms. Engel previously held various positions at ThedaCare, northeast Wis., including that of Director of Spread and Best Practice in the hospital division. Lynne S. Cunningham, FACHE(R)

<p>Lynne S. Cunningham has more than 40 years of healthcare experience, including 30 years as a strategic planning and marketing consultant and international speaker on topics focused on strategic communications. She has worked with hospitals, health systems, medical groups, organ procurement organizations and federally qualified healthcare centers in the U.S. and Canada to define, measure and evaluate the perception of quality among patients, employees, physicians and the community. Ms. Cunningham is the author of several books and many journal articles on topics including the impact of patient satisfaction on malpractice exposure, physician involvement in marketing, and marketing best practices in a variety of service lines. Her newest book is <em>Taking Conversations From Difficult to Doable: 3 Models to Master Tough Conversations</em>. She recently retired from Studer Group, where she had been a coach and speaker for 20 years. Prior to that, she held staff administrative positions with Sutter Health and Kaiser Permanente. Ari Robicsek, MD

<div>Ari Robicsek is chief medical analytics officer, Providence St. Joseph Health, a healthcare system based in the western U.S. His team is responsible for the system’s Value-Oriented Architecture initiative, which uses sophisticated data science to identify care delivery patterns that improve quality, efficiency and consistency. He also leads efforts regarding data organization and democratization, quality measurement, self-service analytics and care delivery innovation. Chad W. Konchak

<div>Chad Konchak is the director of clinical analytics at NorthShore University HealthSystem in Evanston, Ill. Wendy Novicoff, PhD

Mark Herzog, FACHE

<p> During his 36 years as a hospital and medical group C-suite executive, Mark Herzog, FACHE, developed a wide-ranging practice, teaching and mentoring healthcare leaders across the spectrum from academic programs to seasoned leaders from all sectors of the healthcare industry. He is a frequent presenter at the Congress on Healthcare Leadership and has served as faculty at numerous ACHE education programs at the national and local levels. Carson F. Dye, FACHE

<strong></strong><div><strong>Carson F. Dye, FACHE,</strong> president and CEO of Exceptional Leadership LLC, is a seasoned consultant with more than 40 years of leadership and management experience. He has served as an executive search consultant and partner with Witt/Kieffer, TMP Worldwide, and LAI/Lamalie Associates. Prior to these roles, he was partner and director of Findley Davies’s healthcare consulting division in Toledo, Ohio. He has 20 years of experience in healthcare administration, serving in executive-level positions at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Clermont Mercy Hospital in Cincinnati, and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.<br /><br />Dye has been a regular faculty member for the American College of Healthcare Executives since 1987 and has presented workshops for 40 state and local hospital associations. Kathleen L. Forbes, MD

<p><strong>Kathleen Forbes, MD, CPE, FAAFP</strong>, is executive vice president and COO of academic facilities and services for Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare System and vice chancellor of health affairs for the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis. Forbes provides strategic and operational leadership for Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, Methodist University Hospital, the Physician Enterprise, service lines, clinical institutes, the Integrated Operations Center, telehealth and affiliated services. She also oversees the academic relationships, graduate medical education and research. Prior to her appointment at Methodist, Forbes served as the system chief integration officer for Premier Health System in Dayton, Ohio. </p> <p>She began her career by starting her own practice in Brook Park, Ohio, and growing it for more than 10 years, including spearheading the development of a physician hospital organization and facilitating alignment with Cleveland Clinic. Forbes then transitioned to administration, serving in leadership roles of increasing responsibility and scope since 2001 at healthcare organizations including OSF Healthcare in Peoria, Ill.; University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth; TriHealth in Cincinnati; and Saratoga Hospital in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. She has held numerous academic appointments at the University of Tennessee, University of North Texas Health Science Center, Bethesda North Hospital and Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, and Case Western Reserve University Medical School in Cleveland.</p> <p>Forbes is a board-certified physician executive and a board-certified family physician with a medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio. Michael A. Broscio

<p>Michael Broscio is Managing Principal of MAB Career Management, LLC. He recently completed more than ten years as the Director of ACHE's Career Resource Center. He is certified as a Career Management Fellow by the Institute of Career Certification International and brings more than 25 years of career development and human resources experience in healthcare, financial services and academic settings.</p> <p>Mr. Broscio received a Master's Degree in Education and a B.A. in Psychology from DePaul University. He has written numerous magazine articles on career issues and has presented at national conferences.</p>

Scott A. Mason, DPA, LFACHE

<div><strong></strong><div id="pastingspan1">Adviser to hospitals, health systems and health-related companies, Scott A. Mason, DPA, FACHE, is an independent consultant, board member and serial entrepreneur. His career has spanned diverse strategy assignments with more than 400 organizations in 40 states. In addition to joining the consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton and founding his own firm early in his career, Mason has held senior executive positions with numerous private and public companies. Mason has also served in a variety of interim management positions, including as a hospital executive and president of a regional health system. After selling his consulting firm to a health technology company in 1997 (after 17 years), he helped start two other technology firms related to EHRs.</div><div> </div><div id="pastingspan1">Mason is a recognized thought leader in healthcare strategy. A trusted advisor to executive teams and boards, he has written extensively and established himself as one of the industry’s prominent voices in dealing with key trends and their implications. His consulting practice was always focused on the strategic success of his clients. The focus of Mason’s strategy engagements has evolved over the years from aggregating regional hospital systems (more than $20 billion in hospital mergers and almost 40 regional health systems formed) to conducting post-merger integration following these initial mergers. Mason was an early advocate for clinical service lines as an essential component of a growth strategy. Recently, his focus has shifted toward improved management through “systemness” related to what he calls “disruptive collaboration,” including shared clinical service lines. He emphasizes improving the customer experience by adopting retail strategies and embedding them into modern ambulatory care facilities that extend into strategic community-based locations.</div><div> </div><div id="pastingspan1">As a Fellow and faculty member of ACHE, Mason has taught an evolving two-day seminar to senior healthcare executives titled “Growth in the Reform Era,” for almost a decade. He is proud of previously being elected chairman of the American Association of Healthcare Consultants and, more recently, being appointed chair of the ACHE Healthcare Consultants Forum Committee.</div><div id="pastingspan1">A popular speaker at regional meetings and board retreats, Mason has published extensively. In 2016, he received ACHE’s coveted Dean Conley Award for best article of the year for his article, “Retail and Real Estate: The Changing Landscape of Care Delivery,” published in <em>Frontiers of Health Services Management</em>. His next book—<em>Executive Turned Consultant: Transitioning from Experienced Executive to Trusted Advisor in Healthcare</em>—will be published in 2022. This is a companion book to the acclaimed <em>Healthcare Consultant’s Handbook: Career Options and Best Practices</em>, published in 2021.</div><div> </div><div id="pastingspan1">Mason is a graduate of Duke University, where he majored in neuroscience and was a walk-on basketball player.
