Spotlight:
Hear From ACHE’s New Chair
In the latest episode of the Healthcare Executive Podcast, new ACHE Chair William “Bill” P. Santulli, FACHE, talks about his journey into healthcare leadership.
Santulli said communication skills, financial acumen and building relationships helped him along the way. He also credits his successful career growth to very supportive mentors and coaches. He found that leaders in the field took a chance on him and trusted him to make decisions.
As to what makes an effective leader, Santulli’s advice is to get along well with others, build strong relationships, embrace lifelong learning, and support and recognize others.
The benefits ACHE provides, according to Santulli, include a world-class education, the best networking in the industry and the opportunity to serve in leadership roles. Among his priorities during his term as Chair is to enhance ACHE’s support of its 76 chapters.

Simulation Course Allows Healthcare Executives to Test Skills
For a unique, immersive experience, join ACHE’s next Health System Simulation course April 11—13. Airline pilots don’t step onto the flight deck without adequate training, including spending time in a flight simulator that teaches them how to navigate challenging worst-case scenarios. Healthcare leaders have this same opportunity to test their problem-solving and strategic decision-making skills through realistic exercises that effectively emulate the breadth and organizational complexity in a competitive marketplace—with the freedom to make mistakes.
Developed in collaboration with Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health, the Health System Simulation utilizes a team-based method to help healthcare leaders traverse modern healthcare barriers, adopt unique approaches to solve difficult problems and dispute long-held assumptions about what solutions will work—and what won’t—in a modern multi-hospital market.
During this two-day intensive course, participants will face complex issues such as capacity, staffing, financial structure, patient/payer mix, investment in quality and more. They’ll use evidence-based models, situational instruction and strategic problem-solving to navigate a changing consumer and regulatory landscape—all while receiving real-time feedback.
Participants have the opportunity to earn up to 21 ACHE Virtual Interactive Education and Interprofessional Continuing Education credits. If you can’t make the April program, another virtual session is scheduled Aug. 15–17. Learn more or register today.
