Program Spotlight:

Expand Your Knowledge Today With Free Webinars on Timely Topics

The availability of vaccines for COVID-19 has offered hope for many but presented healthcare leaders with new complexities around orchestrating mass vaccinations. Join us this Thursday for a complimentary webinar that will examine the challenges of mass vaccination efforts and strategies that some healthcare executives are using to accelerate the pace of vaccine distribution, mitigate risk of disease transmission and ensure patients return for their second dose. During “Addressing Care Delivery Challenges Using Flexible Workforce and Digital Strategies,” you will hear from experts at Change Healthcare as they present a case study on the support they provided to a major U.S. city to help prevent and mitigate the spread of the coronavirus.

Then, on May 5, join the complimentary webinar “Leadership’s Role in Implementing the National Action Plan to Prevent Healthcare Harm” to hear from patient safety experts Tejal Gandhi, MD, CPPS, chief safety and transformation officer with Press Ganey Associations LLC, and Sam R. Watson, CPPS, senior vice president, Field Engagement, Michigan Health & Hospital Association. They will explain the rationale for establishing greater coordination among patient safety stakeholders across foundational areas of improvement and describe key recommendations in the National Action Plan for the Prevention of Health Care Harm, and identify strategies, tools and resources for use in its implementation.

Both webinars are eligible for 1 ACHE Qualified Education credit. Register today.

Your April Gift: Workforce Resilience

As we continue to adapt to new and changing conditions in healthcare, there are steps leaders can take to build resilience and ensure well-being for their staff. This month, we are offering two free resources to help executives cultivate resilience in their organizations.

In an article originally published in the winter 2018 issue of Frontiers of Health Services Management, authors Page West, RN, and Perry M. Gee, PhD, RN, highlight efforts at Dignity Health to reduce burnout and increase resilience in employees using evidenced-based interventions, such as “reflective pause rooms,” and strategic partnerships.

“Resilience really is about choosing the path of hardiness rather than the one of festering stress,” write authors Kenneth R. White, PhD, FACHE, and J. Stephen Lindsey, LFACHE, in an excerpt of their book, Take Charge of Your Healthcare Management Career: 50 Lessons That Drive Success. Published in 2014 by Health Administration Press, this book offers steps leaders can take to bring resilience to their personal lives and to their organizations.

ACHE Recognizes National Minority Health Month

“We must reassure members of our communities that the vaccine is safe, efficacious, and increasingly available, as the health and well-being of members of at-risk populations may depend on their willingness to be inoculated against COVID-19,” writes Stephan Davis, DNP, FACHE, in a recent ACHE blog post. Davis, who is MHA director and assistant professor at the University of North Texas Health Science Center, encourages healthcare leaders in his blog post to reassure people from various racial and ethnic backgrounds that the vaccine against the coronavirus is safe, and to ensure that the vaccine is equitably distributed, in recognition of April being National Minority Health Month.

This year, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Minority Health, along with federal and nonfederal partners, are focusing on the impact that COVID-19 has had on racial and ethnic minority and American Indian and Alaska Native communities and underscoring the need for these vulnerable communities to get vaccinated as more vaccines become available. Healthcare leaders can learn more about this effort and get involved here, and they can join this conversation online by using the hashtag #VaccineReady.

Essential Organ Donation Education for Healthcare Professionals

The Organ Donation and Transplantation Alliance is offering a virtual Organ Donation Exploratory Seminar May 6–7 for multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
