Leading With Purpose
With attitudes toward work changing and the existing talent shortage, a new dynamic is taking shape in the healthcare workforce, creating a sense of urgency, according to author Kevin Joseph, MD, FACHE. He says, “There’s never been a more pressing need for leadership training.” Joseph describes the tools to improve organizational health by shifting the power gradient, increasing accountability and modifying leadership priorities to improve culture, patient outcomes and financial strength.
He prioritizes cultural fit over skills when hiring and aims to inspire employees to change their perceptions of themselves, their roles and their relationships with patients. Serving as keynote speaker at a recent hospital association event in Tennessee, Joseph covered how to lead an organization with purpose. He recommended the four types of feedback every leader should master and the 15-70-15 leadership model that describes why 70% of a leader’s time should be focused on serving and supporting others.
Joseph, one of dozens of expert ACHE Faculty members, travels to hospitals and health systems across the country to present in-person, customizable and cost-effective learning opportunities for staff.
