6 Questions With an Early Careerist CEO

“As an early careerist, sometimes the smallest things can have major effects,” says Parker D. Harris, chair of ACHE’s Early Careerist Committee, in a recent ACHE Blog post. “Career advice, projects you serve on and people you meet might send you down amazingly positive trajectories. I encourage early careerists to stay true to themselves and their morals, but never say no and always be open to exploring something new. Chapter leadership did exactly that for me, as it expanded my leadership abilities by exposing me to those outside of my organization and those who are in other areas of healthcare.”

In a Q&A, Harris discusses his role as CEO at Baptist Memorial Hospital–Tipton in Memphis, Tenn., the community his organization serves and the importance of getting involved in his local ACHE chapter. This blog post is part of a series featuring ACHE’s early careerist healthcare leaders.

Celebrate the Healthcare Workforce at the 2023 World Hospital Congress

Do you have a good story to tell about your organization’s workforce? The International Hospital Federation wants to share it during the 2023 World Hospital Congress, Oct. 25–27 in Lisbon, Portugal.

The World Hospital Congress is a unique global forum that connects healthcare executives and decision-makers to share knowledge and good practices in leadership, management and service delivery; exchange new ideas and innovations; and network with other senior executives from across the international healthcare community.

It also presents opportunities for attendees to share their work. IHF is extending an exclusive invitation to its members—including ACHE members—to contribute five-minute videos that showcase how their organizations support, reward, retain and recruit staff to deliver healthcare in their respective communities. These videos will be shown in the World Hospital Congress exhibition area and will also be available to watch on the event mobile app.

If you are interested in contributing a video, please review these guidelines and let IHF know of your interest by emailing Karen Cabuyao, IHF events and communications officer, at karen.cabuyao@ihf-fih.org. The deadline to submit a video is Sept. 22.

If you haven’t already, explore World Hospital Congress program highlights and register. Discounted IHF member rates are available to ACHE and its members; simply enter the code 23WHCIHF when asked if your organization is an IHF member. Additionally, group discounts are available for organizations that register five or more attendees. If you are planning to bring a team to Congress, visit the group registration portal.

Assessing Patient Eligibility for Behavioral Health Integration Services

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services is encouraging providers to assess whether their patients are eligible for behavioral health integration services. Behavioral health integration, which incorporates behavioral health with primary care, is an effective strategy to improve mental, behavioral or psychiatric health for many patients. Eligible conditions include mental health; behavioral health, including substance use disorder; and psychiatric.

Medicare covers two types of behavioral health integration services:

  1. Psychiatric Collaborative Care Model, or CoCM: Use CPT codes 99492–99494 and HCPCS code G2214 to bill.
  2. General behavioral health integration services using models of care other than CoCM: Use CPT code 99484 and HCPCS code G0323 to bill.

CMS makes separate payment to physicians and nonphysician practitioners for services they supply to patients over a calendar month service period. For more information, visit the following CMS webpages:
