Monthly Membership Perk:

Strengthen Your Physician Engagement

Cape Fear Valley Health System, Fayetteville, N.C., knows full well the physician shortage situation, with demand projected to be largest in the South at 62,900 full-time physicians needed, according to the Association of American Medical Colleges. In this column, read how the health system is addressing the situation by developing residency programs with the intent to retain physicians.

This month, we are offering healthcare leaders a free resource that offers additional strategies to strengthen physician engagement. In this chapter from Enhanced Physician Engagement, Volume 1: What It Is, Why You Need It, and Where to Begin, editor Carson F. Dye, FACHE, examines why today’s healthcare environment, which demands more physicians, should give them more substantive roles in influencing policy and tactics.

We hope you enjoy this Monthly Membership Perk, and we thank you for being a part of the ACHE community.

ACHE Blog: When Fuel Gets Added to the Fire

“In the arid mountain west amid ongoing drought, wildfire season doesn't let up, even during a COVID-19 surge,” writes Jeff Prater, FACHE, CEO, Carson Valley Medical Center, Gardnerville, Nev., in a recent ACHE Blog post. Since joining Carson Valley Medical Center as CEO in June 2018, Prater has experienced multiple wildfire threats to the area, including the Tamarack and Caldor Fires of 2021. Prater credits his experience and training as a veteran U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman for preparing him to lead and support his team through a challenging time while finding creative ways to continue hospital operations. Read the full blog post to learn more about how Prater and his team worked through simultaneous crises.
