Benefit Bulletin: Earn Your FACHE® Credential and Track Your Journey

Do you know that as a member, you can become board certified in healthcare management as an ACHE Fellow with one year of membership tenure? Last year, the ACHE Board of Governors changed the membership tenure requirement for initial Fellow advancement from three years to one year, effective Jan. 1, 2021. We hope this change will make attaining Fellow status possible for more Members who wish to reach this important leadership level. Candidates must still meet all the other eligibility requirements to attain the FACHE credential—one of the most recognized and respected symbols of a leader’s competency and commitment to healthcare leadership excellence.

Additionally, ACHE members who are working toward earning their initial FACHE credential can now track their journey with the FACHE Progress Tool. Available when you log in to your My ACHE account, the tool provides a visual snapshot of progress made in meeting the eligibility requirements to attain the FACHE credential. A similar tool will be available later this year for current Fellows to track the progress of their recertification.

We are proud to offer these exclusive member benefits, and we thank you for being part of the ACHE community.

Rinaudo was recently recognized in the 2020 Bloomberg 50—a list of people in business, entertainment, finance, politics, and science and technology whose accomplishments merit recognition—for delivering more than 15,000 bundles of PPE to Novant Health facilities in North Carolina with his Zipline drones. He will deliver the opening session Parker B. Francis Distinguished Lecture for the 2021 Congress on Healthcare Leadership, March 22–25, where he will continue the conversation on the vital role of innovation in healthcare.

Regaining Strength: Strategies for Financial Recovery

Managing the pandemic and ensuring the safety of patients and the workforce has been all-consuming for healthcare leaders, making sustaining the economic viability of their organizations—many of which are still in recovery mode—that much more difficult. Although leadership teams may feel overwhelmed by the immediate challenges of the pandemic, experts recommend executives multitask and stay focused on their long-term financial strategies.

The cover story of the January/February 2021 issue of Healthcare Executive magazine explores why experts are saying the time is right for optimism in the C-suite, and why healthcare executives should take a proactive approach to their financial strategies in spite of the health crisis. “Organizations that continue to make important strategic decisions are likely to come out of this in a better place,” explains Ken Kaufman, founder and chairman of Kaufman Hall. Visit HealthcareExecutive.org to read more of the new issue of ACHE’s official magazine.

Forming the Next Generation of Healthcare Executives

How are political changes and public health challenges shaping the education of healthcare’s future leaders? Paula H. Song, PhD, chair of Virginia Commonwealth University’s Department of Health Administration, prize-winning researcher and co-author of Gapenski’s Understanding Healthcare Financial Management, Eighth Edition, for Health Administration Press, shares her thoughts in an interview in the January/February 2021 issue of the Journal of Healthcare Management.

Meanwhile, researchers at Johns Hopkins Medicine examined a volunteer program to promote resilience among stressed care provider teams and found that it works. Their study, also published in the January/February issue of JHM, makes the case for other health systems to consider similar programs.

The January/February issue of JHM is now available online to all ACHE members at ache.org/Journals.
