Program Spotlight:

Strategies to Support Clinician Well-Being

It’s no secret that healthcare workers are suffering from unprecedented levels of burnout and that many clinicians are considering leaving their jobs. In fact, new research from the Illinois Economic Policy Institute and the Project for Middle Class Renewal at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign suggests that the number of nurses considering leaving their jobs over the next year could be higher than previous studies suggest, according to Healthcare Dive.

Professional well-being is important in healthcare but with so many competing demands, it can be challenging to prioritize the time and resources needed to truly make a difference in reducing clinician burnout. To help healthcare leaders address this critical challenge, ACHE is offering an upcoming Virtual Face-to-Face Course on the topic of professional well-being.

Where Wellness Meets Work: System-Based Solutions to Address Burnout and Promote Clinician Well-Being” is perfect for healthcare leaders who are interested in identifying specific strategies and tools to support clinician wellness in their organizations and departments. During this course, worth 3 ACHE Face-to-Face Education credits, Fayola Edwards-Ojeba, MD, founder/CEO, RechargedMD, will help healthcare leaders examine the extent and impact of burnout internally and develop a roadmap toward identifying and building the necessary strategies to prioritize and support clinician wellness.

Check out all of our upcoming virtual face-to-face opportunities here and register today.

Advancing Diverse Executives in 2022 and Beyond

Meet the 37 scholars selected for ACHE’s 2022 Thomas C. Dolan Executive Diversity Program and Career Accelerator Program, who come from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines. Nearly 180 high-caliber executives applied for these prestigious national programs, which provide education, mentoring and networking experiences to prepare diverse leaders for higher-level positions in hospitals, health systems and other healthcare organizations.

This year, the Executive Diversity Program will consist of e-learning, including webinars, self-study materials and three multiday, in-person sessions. The Career Accelerator Program is exclusively virtual. Dolan scholars are empowered through a structured curriculum and activities that cultivate strong leadership presence; sharpen expertise in diversity, equity and inclusion; build critical leadership skills; and expand one’s capacity to navigate career opportunities and challenges. Both programs are six months in duration and are wholly funded by the Fund for Healthcare Leadership.

Opening More Doors: Increasing Access to Care

Although the life expectancy of Black Americans has improved in recent decades, it continues to lag behind that of white people, according to research recently published in the journal Annals of Internal Medicine. The study underscores the need to further examine how structural racism, including housing and healthcare, plays a role in harming the health of Black people, as well as the need for policies to address the issue, according to an NBC News article

The uneven impact of COVID-19 on communities of color and other marginalized populations in the United States threw the issue of healthcare disparities into sharp relief when the pandemic began. Since then, more healthcare organizations have begun collecting data to pinpoint the gaps in their communities, according to a feature article in the July/August issue of Healthcare Executive.

Opening More Doors: Increasing Access to Care” offers examples of how leaders and organizations are making strides in providing care to vulnerable populations that historically have been marginalized. From deploying health vans into the community during the pandemic to integrating mental health services at a primary care clinic, hospitals and health systems are employing new strategies and tactics to reach people where they are and when they need care.
