Amidst Celebration, Diversity Commitment Continues
“As we close this Pride Month, let’s celebrate the progress we’ve made and renew our commitment to the work ahead,” says Mark Liu, chair of ACHE’s LGBTQ+ Healthcare Leaders Community Committee.
Liu, senior director of oncology strategy, transformation and analytics, Mount Sinai Health System, N.Y., says that the LGBTQ+ community continues to face challenges, particularly in healthcare, where they “encounter disparities in access to care, quality of treatment and health outcomes.”
Joining ACHE first as a student associate, Liu credits his becoming an ACHE Member as a pivotal step in his career journey. Read more about Liu’s story.

Mentoring, Coaching Key to Peak Career Performance
When it comes to leadership, healthcare executives do their best work when surrounded by people who support them, share power and influence, and give them honest feedback from a place of objectivity, according to Laurie K. Baedke, FACHE.
Author of Mentor, Coach, Lead to Peak Professional Performance and director of healthcare leadership programs, Creighton University, Baedke says it’s vital to one’s career to build a network of advisers and pay it forward by extending advice and support to others. “We are remiss if we do not turn around and contribute the same to those around us,” she says.
ACHE Members are eager to hear Baedke’s message as her seminar on July 29 at the Boston Cluster is already at capacity. View the list of available sessions at the Boston Cluster and register today.

Webinar: Designing Safer Healthcare
The National Action Alliance for Patient and Workforce Safety is hosting a summer webinar series in support of its vision to ensure safe patient care everywhere and to prevent patient harm.
The NAA, a collective effort of federal agencies and private partners, recognizes that healthcare is not safe until it is safe for all. The group works toward its goal by applying known harm-reduction strategies and sharing best practices and lessons learned to meet the wide-ranging needs of patients across all populations.
In alignment with the National Action Plan to Advance Patient Safety, the NAA seeks a total systems approach to improving safety, focused on the action plan’s four foundational elements of safety: culture, leadership, and governance; patient and family engagement; workforce safety; and learning health system development.
The upcoming webinar series includes “Making Healthcare Safer by Design,” July 16; “Strengthening Safety Competencies,” Aug. 20; and “Advancing Patient Safety Through Diagnostic Excellence,” Sept. 17. To learn more about the programs or to visit the archive of previously aired webinars, click here.
