Behavioral Health: Meeting Community Need Through Partnership
The need for mental healthcare has surged since the COVID-19 pandemic and has shown healthcare organizations that many communities lack access to comprehensive behavioral healthcare services. Though acute medical services have been successful in providing solutions to their community, partnerships between healthcare providers and community organizations have been less prosperous.
In honor of National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, we are offering “Behavioral Health: Meeting Community Need Through Partnership” free of charge to members for a limited time only. Originally offered as a session during the 2022 Virtual Leadership Symposium, this recorded session (regularly a $49 value) explores how to build a comprehensive behavioral healthcare strategy for your organization and identify different partnership approaches in behavioral healthcare settings.
Now through Aug. 9, you can access this recorded session—worth 1 ACHE Qualified Education credit—free of charge from our recorded content library. Simply enter the discount code JULPERK2023 when you register online. And, be sure to check out ACHE’s other on-demand digital learning offerings.
We hope you enjoy this Monthly Membership Perk, and we thank you for being a part of the ACHE community.

2023 Lifetime Service and Achievement Award Recipient Shares His Story
His path through academia and healthcare management began as a candy striper in his teens. Lifetime Service and Achievement Award winner Paul B. Hofmann, DrPH, LFACHE, recaps his career in an interview in the July/August Journal of Healthcare Management.
In another feature in this issue of JHM, Michael R. Canady, FACHE, CEO, Holzer Health System, describes a relatable challenge in healthcare: unifying a corporate culture after a for-profit and a nonprofit health system merge. At Holzer, middle managers were the key players in a strategy that included improv training.
Winners of the 2023 Richard J. Stull Student Essay Competition in Healthcare Management are also featured in the July/August issue. In her essay, Rebecca Wade of Hofstra University, graduate division winner, tackles how creating environmentally sound practices in the U.S. healthcare system is a tall order but good business. Meanwhile, Megan E. Watkins of Auburn University, undergraduate winner, writes about the risks of and solutions to healthcare’s reliance on internet-connected devices.
Also in this issue is a study that identified a novel intervention to reduce costly readmissions of patients with cardiovascular diagnoses, complicated by underlying behavioral and psychosocial factors. Read the entire issue available online at ache.org/Journals.
