Program Spotlight:

A Conversation With Delvecchio S. Finley, FACHE, ACHE’s 2023–2024 Chair

“The biggest thing is intentionality,” says Finley, president, Atrium Health Navicent, Macon, Ga., during a recent episode of the Healthcare Executive Podcast. When asked what organizations can do to remove barriers to improving diversity, equity and inclusion, he continues: “I think it’s like with anything else, whether we’re talking about diversity or whether we’re talking about improving quality or talking about any other sort of opportunity that we think stands between us and fulfilling our mission for the organization, first and foremost, but also their vision for what we believe that the organization can be or become, [it] takes an intentional effort or set of efforts to actually manifest it.”

Visit HealthcareExecutive.org/Podcast to hear more from Finley regarding diversity, equity and inclusion in healthcare leadership, as well as advice he shares for emerging healthcare leaders and the issues to which he’s committed during his term as ACHE’s Board Chair.

In case you missed, it, be sure to read this profile of Finley in the March/April issue of Healthcare Executive magazine.

A Model for Working in Today’s Healthcare Environment

“The key to sustainable success within a [volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous] world is to create a corporate culture that allows all trustees, executives, physicians, nurses, clinicians and professional support personnel to express meaning and find purpose in their work,” writes Thomas A. Atchison, EdD, in Chapter 1 of his book Reigniting Employee Engagement: A Guide to Rediscovering Purpose and Meaning in Healthcare.

The winning title of the 2023 James A. Hamilton Book of the Year Award—given annually to the author(s) of a management or healthcare book judged outstanding by ACHE’s Book of the Year Committee—this book presents a simple model for creating sustainable employee engagement, now more elusive than ever because of ongoing changes in healthcare delivery. Rising caregiver burnout is an especially critical issue, and this book provides a method for refocusing on basic human needs to reenergize the healthcare workforce.
