Preparing Leaders for the Future: In-Person Executive Program Registration Closes Soon

If you want to meet the challenges of tomorrow with bold new solutions, there’s still time to register for ACHE’s 2023 In-Person Executive Program. A unique, immersive learning experience for healthcare leaders, the In-Person Executive Program comprises three in-person modules, June 25–Oct. 24, in Atlanta (June), Chicago (August) and Houston (October), with intermittent virtual education between sessions. Each module features site visits to top healthcare institutions and one-on-one coaching and advising to help leaders face today’s most pressing challenges.

Designed for three cohorts—executive, senior executive and clinical executive—the Executive Programs allow participants to earn up to 40 ACHE Face-to-Face Education and interprofessional continuing education credits. The program also features resources and discussions that deliver unique insights on topics relevant to specific challenges healthcare leaders face, as well as professional assessments and individualized coaching sessions to support professional growth.

Registration closes June 21 for the in-person program, for which attendance is limited to maintain a collegial environment. Visit ache.org/ExecutivePrograms to learn more and register. For questions, more information or assistance in deciding which cohort or program is right for you, please contact Alexa Calingo at acalingo@ache.org.

Help Shape Our Policy Statements

Each year, select Policy Statements are reviewed to ensure their continued relevance to the field. Many of these statements are derived directly from comments you have shared with us. For that reason, we are asking for your input. Please take a moment to read the Code of Ethics and five Policy Statements under review this year:

Please submit your comments to PolicyReview@ache.org. The deadline for submitting comments is June 30. The Board of Governors will discuss these statements and any recommended revisions during its December meeting. The revised statements will be posted on ache.org in early 2024.

Enabling Clinicians to Practice at the Top of Their License

Rare is the nurse or physician who does not cherish being challenged every day to the full extent of their education and experience in service of their patients’ well-being. The opportunity to focus that skill on helping people is why most clinicians went into healthcare. They can perform at their best if they’re unencumbered by peripheral tasks that distract from clinical decision-making and direct care. These distractions can erode morale and cause burnout.

As healthcare organizations saw before the COVID-19 pandemic and are feeling more sharply now, “nurses and other clinicians become scarce when they don’t feel valued,” says Terrance R. McWilliams, MD, FAAFP, director and chief clinical consultant with HSG Advisors, Louisville, Ky., in a recent Healthcare Executive feature. For this reason, “we need to utilize all our support staff at the top of their capabilities to allow our clinicians to practice at the top of theirs,” he says.

In “Peak Performance: Enabling Clinicians to Practice at the Top of Their License,” leaders and experts detail the workforce structures and technologies they’re implementing that are empowering clinicians to focus on patient care as opposed to tedious or administrative tasks that can be done by others.

CMS Updates Strategic Plan

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services recently shared updates to its Strategic Plan, including a new cross-cutting oral health initiative. Through this initiative, CMS will implement policy changes and consider opportunities through existing authorities to expand access to oral health coverage.

CMS is also working to advance health equity through its Strategic Plan and released a fact sheet detailing agency actions to date on this key pillar of the plan.

Finally, CMS added a new fact sheet about its “Integrating the 3Ms (Medicare, Medicaid and Marketplace) Cross-Cutting Initiative.” The fact sheet outlines how CMS has developed approaches to promote alignment and consistency across programs, promoting seamless continuity of care, including experiences with healthcare providers and health coverage for people served by the “3 Ms”.
