Recertify Your FACHE® Credential by Dec. 31

If you are board certified in healthcare management as an ACHE Fellow, be sure to check if you are due for recertification. Fellows are required to recertify their credential every three years, and the recertification application with payment is due no later than Dec. 31 of the year in which your certification expires.

Fellows whose credential is set expire this year can stay on track to recertify in three easy steps: 1. Completion of continuing education activities or retaking and passing the Board of Governors Exam, 2. Completing four volunteer activities and 3. Paying the recertification fee of $200 when you submit your recertification application.

You can learn more about the recertification process by visiting ache.org/FACHE and selecting the Recertification button from the menu.

Improving Gender Equity in Healthcare Management

Although women represent 75 percent of the hospital workforce, they are vastly underrepresented in leadership roles. In the November/December issue of Healthcare Executive, we explore how gender equity is improving, but more work is needed to level the playing field.

The cover story, “Women in Leadership: Hardwiring the Culture,” presents insights from the first female CEO in one hospital’s history and from a CEO who promotes “intentionality” in how leadership work groups and teams are created.

Also, don’t miss “ACHE Roundtable: Leadership for the 2020s,” which brings together four CEOs from across the nation to weigh in on the issues that keep CEOs up at night, and to share their visions for 2020 and beyond.

Be sure to check out previous issues and web-exclusive content on HealthcareExecutive.org.

Executive Learning Lab Brings a Culture of Safety to Life

Last month, more than two dozen senior healthcare leaders gathered at Cleveland Clinic for the most recent ACHE Executive Learning Lab, “Leading for Safety.” Led by senior executives and practitioners from Cleveland Clinic, the two-day learning lab brought to life an organizational culture of safety, quality and process improvement through expert faculty presentations, discussions, tours and networking.

Highlights included departmental tours of Cleveland Clinic’s improvement model—a system to create a culture where every caregiver is capable, empowered and expected to make improvements every day. During these tours, participants saw first-hand how caregivers work through problem solving in their units to drive change and improvement in all aspects of care.

Attendees also observed daily tiered huddles—a process that enables staff to identify and solve problems at all levels across Cleveland Clinic.

“It was great to hear how one of the best health systems in the world implemented high-reliability tools to enhance patient safety,” says attendee Paul M. Lambrecht, FACHE, vice president, quality and patient safety, Inspira Health Network, Elmer, N.J.

Memorial Hermann Health System, Houston, hosted the first ACHE Executive Learning Lab in February, and more are planned for 2020.
