Spotlight:

Infusing Belonging Into DEI Work

“Diversity is being invited to the party, inclusion is being asked to dance and belonging is dancing like no one is watching,” says Sandra Ogunremi, DHA, vice president, diversity, inclusion and belonging at Monument Health, Rapid City, S.D., in Healthcare Executive’s November/December feature on diversity, equity and inclusion. When a workplace atmosphere focuses on belonging, employees feel empowered to bring their whole, authentic selves to the job.

The executives featured in the article discuss strategies and challenges to achieving this type of comfortable, intelligent environment, including constructive conversations, listening, an understanding of bias and safe spaces. They stress the importance of commitment and why approaches cannot be one-size-fits-all. If workers don’t feel like they belong, they withdraw, quit quietly or leave, so respecting and embracing differences can be a critical part of not only recruitment but also retention.

Visit HealthcareExecutive.org to find out how to take the concept of belonging and turn it into tangible action, as well as read the rest of the November/December issue.

There’s Still Time to Register for the Orlando Cluster

Prepare for the rapidly changing future of healthcare in Orlando this December. Although the event spans Dec. 11–13, there are several one-day sessions if your schedule requires a quick and flexible option: “Workplace Transformation: How to Promote Clinician Wellness and Create a Roadmap for Organizational Change,” “Effective, Credible and Accountable Leadership in the C-suite,” “Aligning Quality Management and Health Equity to Improve Outcomes,” and “Driving and Leading the Organization Through Change.”

“Driving and Leading the Organization Through Change” is worth 1 ACHE Qualified Education credit and will provide attendees an interactive opportunity to discuss and debate the “how” of change management with their healthcare executive peers. The other seminars are worth six credits each. Together, they cover many of the pressing issues in the healthcare industry today—how to properly assess and create programs to align equity with reliable and safe care; values-driven leadership and the benefit of embracing compassion and caring as core elements of effective management; and the extent and impact of burnout, building strategies to support clinician wellness.

Don’t wait until it’s too late to be a part of this educational opportunity! Visit ache.org/Orlando to complete your registration and choose your sessions.
