Join over 6,000 of your colleagues in Texas, with more than 500 expert speakers and 170 education and networking sessions. Some of the marquee events include:

  • Brené Brown, PhD, research professor and bestselling author, will welcome attendees to Congress Monday, March 24, at the Parker B. Francis Distinguished Lecture “Dare to Lead: Cultivating Courage Through Vulnerability and Trust.” After 20 years of research, Brown has found the answer to daring leadership: a collection of four skill sets that are 100% teachable, observable and measurable.
  • Hear from rocket scientist turned professor, Ozan Varol, JD, at the Arthur C. Bachmeyer Memorial Address and Luncheon, also Monday, in his address “Reimagine the Status Quo With Moonshot Thinking.” Varol is an expert on innovation and creativity and the bestselling author of Think Like a Rocket Scientist. He advocates for moonshot thinking as a way of turning the seemingly impossible into the possible.
  • Presidential historian and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Doris Kearns Goodwin, PhD, will deliver the Malcolm T. MacEachern Memorial Address and Luncheon Tuesday, March 25, with “No Ordinary Time: A Front Row Seat to History.” Journalist Frank Sesno will interview Goodwin as she shares an unforgettable portrait of the extraordinary leaders who transformed our country. She will also draw poignant parallels between past events and our own complex time.
  • Join the visionary leader and institutional change agent Michael J. Sorrell, EdD, president of Paul Quinn College, as he delivers “From Chaos to Clarity: Strategies for Leading Through Change and Uncertainty” during the Gintzig Commemorative Lecture and Luncheon Wednesday, March 26. Sorrell transformed Paul Quinn College into an institution of academic excellence. He offers strategies for managing resistance, overcoming obstacles and seizing opportunities for growth and transformation.

These speakers and sessions are just a sampling of what you can expect at the 2025 Congress, where you can also earn up to 18 ACHE In-Person Education (24 with a boot camp) credits toward earning or maintaining your FACHE® credential. Register for the 2025 Summer Enrichment Program

Registration is open for the American Hospital Association’s Institute for Diversity and Health Equity’s 2025 Summer Enrichment Program. This program seeks students with a demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity and health equity through lived experiences to strengthen the pipeline and build the next generation of diverse executives and leaders in healthcare.

This opportunity is a 10-week, paid internship program for graduate students who are pursuing an advanced degree within healthcare or a related field. Students in the program are paired with a healthcare organization, where they benefit from experiential learning, mentorship, networking and the opportunity to learn from experts in the field. Experienced administrators serve as preceptors and mentors, providing support and career advice as well as critical early-career connections.

ACHE and the Institute are co-promoting the program to increase the number of students who participate and, accordingly, increase the number of host sites. Healthcare organizations that register to become a host site gain access to these healthcare leaders of tomorrow.

Internships generally take place June through August. Learn more and register today.

Latest Issue of JHM Features Insights on Safety and Leadership Continuity

The Sustaining Safety column in the Nov/Dec issue of the Journal of Healthcare Management emphasizes the need for healthcare leadership to recommit to patient and workforce safety in the face of variable progress since the release 25 years ago of To Err is Human: Building a Safer Health System. Patricia A. McGaffigan, RN, CPPS, senior advisor for safety at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, and president of the Certification Board for Professionals in Patient Safety, explains that while some organizations have made significant safety gains, others struggle to sustain improvements, particularly amid challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic.

This issue’s interview features Thomas M. Priselac, who recently retired as president and CEO of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. He reflects on his 45-year tenure at the hospital, while emphasizing the importance of leadership continuity in driving the success of Cedars-Sinai and its growth from a local hospital focused on cardiology and gastroenterology to a world-renowned center with expertise in numerous specialties.

The first two research articles in this issue continue JHM’s ongoing look into clinician burnout and strategies to alleviate burnout threats against healthcare delivery. Another article investigates how hospital characteristics affect efficiency and cost reduction under the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ Hospital Value-Based Purchasing program. The final article analyzes the relationship between the value of tax exemptions and community benefits provided by nonprofit hospitals.

This issue also features an abstract that examines the apparent causes of unnecessary skilled nursing facility readmissions and opportunities for improvement.
