Sit in the Driver’s Seat With Simulation Education
In today’s healthcare environment, leaders must be adept at navigating the changing consumer and regulatory landscapes. This fall, experience the challenges of executive leadership and strategic decision-making with the Health System Simulation Program while earning up to 21 ACHE Face-to-Face Education and Interprofessional Continuing Education credits. Offered in collaboration with Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health, this unique two-day learning experience emulates the full breadth and complexity of leadership in today’s competitive marketplace.
Unfamiliar with simulation education? In a recent episode of the Healthcare Executive Podcast, John S. Winkleman, faculty member at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, discusses the innovative new Health System Simulation course. He explains why simulation learning is particularly effective for healthcare leaders, as it allows them to see what happens when they’re in the driver’s seat. Additionally, a recent ACHE Blog post lists the many benefits of simulation education such as real-time feedback and the freedom to make mistakes.
Upcoming virtual sessions are scheduled for Oct. 20–22 and Dec. 8–10, with additional sessions to be added throughout the year. Learn more and register today.

Call for Proposals: Management Innovations Poster Session
We invite authors to submit narratives of their posters for consideration for the 37th Annual Management Innovations Poster Session, to be held at ACHE’s 2022 Congress on Healthcare Leadership. This is a unique opportunity for authors to share the innovative work being done at their organizations with other healthcare leaders. We are interested in innovations addressing issues affecting your organization that might be helpful to others, including improving quality or efficiency, improving patient or physician satisfaction, implementation of EHRs, uses of new technology, and similar topics.
Please visit ache.org/CongressPosterSession for the full selection criteria. Narratives should be submitted as an e-mail attachment to PosterSessions@ache.org by Jan. 18, 2022.
ACHE Phone System to Undergo Updates This Week
As part of the ongoing improvements to our technology and systems, we will be upgrading our internal phone system Wednesday, Oct. 6. The process will begin at 5 p.m. Central time and will continue for several hours. During this time, our Customer Service Center and voicemail system will not be available. As such, you will not be able to contact ACHE by phone during this time, but you will still be able to reach us by email at contact@ache.org. These improvements to our phone system will enable us to provide a superior level of service to our members. We appreciate your patience while we perform this critical upgrade.
If you have any questions before the upgrade takes place, please contact ACHE’s Customer Service Center Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central time, at (312) 424-9400 or contact@ache.org.
Students and Host Sites: Register for 2022 Summer Enrichment Program
Registration opens today for the American Hospital Association’s Institute for Diversity and Health Equity’s 2022 Summer Enrichment Program. The Summer Enrichment Program grows and strengthens the pipeline of healthcare leaders from underrepresented groups, and places diverse graduate students pursuing advanced degrees in healthcare administration or a related field in 10-week, paid internships across the country. Internships generally will take place from June through August.
ACHE and the Institute are co-promoting the SEP to increase the number of students who participate in the SEP each year and, accordingly, increase the number of host sites. Just as students benefit from experiential learning, healthcare organizations that register to become host sites gain access to the healthcare leaders of tomorrow—former SEP interns are now CEOs and administrators of hospitals and healthcare organizations nationwide.
We can accelerate the healthcare field’s efforts to diversify its workforce, leadership teams and governing boards by contributing to improved patient care for all. Help strengthen equity and inclusion in healthcare organizations—learn more and register today.
CMS Will Pay for COVID-19 Booster Shots
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced recently that eligible consumers can receive the COVID-19 booster shot at no cost. Following the Food and Drug Administration’s recent authorization of a booster dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for certain high-risk populations and a recommendation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, CMS said it will continue to provide coverage without cost-sharing for eligible people with Medicare, Medicaid, Children’s Health Insurance Program and most commercial health insurance coverage.
CMS said it continues to explore ways to ensure maximum access to COVID-19 vaccinations. More information regarding the CDC COVID-19 Vaccination Program Provider Requirements and how the COVID-19 vaccine is provided through that program at no cost to recipients is available at www.cdc.gov/vaccines/covid-19/vaccination-provider-support.html and through the CMS COVID-19 Provider Toolkit.
