THOMAS GORDON, FACHE, ELECTED TO AMERICAN COLLEGE OF HEALTHCARE
EXECUTIVES BOARD OF GOVERNORS
CHICAGO,
March 12, 2005—Lynne
Thomas Gordon, FACHE, director of Operations, Shands at AGH,
Gainesville, FL, has been elected to serve on the Board of
Governors of the American College of Healthcare Executives,
an international professional society of 30,000 healthcare
executives.
Thomas
Gordon took office today at the Council of Regents Meeting
during ACHE’s 48th Congress on Healthcare Management
at the Hilton Chicago. She will serve a three-year term representing
ACHE affiliates on ACHE’s Board of Governors, the authority
that oversees ACHE operations and member services.
Thomas
Gordon has served as director of Operations for Shands at
AGH since 1997. A 367-bed acute care hospital affiliated with
UF&Shands - The University of Florida Health System, Shands
at AGH was the first Florida hospital to adopt the Planetree
model of patient-centered care. As director of Operations,
Thomas Gordon is responsible for providing management and
operation leadership for designated patient care, clinical
support, patient support, and ambulatory care areas.
Prior
to joining Shands, Thomas Gordon served in positions of progressive
responsibility at Scottish Rite Children’s Medical Center
in Atlanta. From 1991 to 1992 she was director of Professional
Services, from 1992 to 1995 she was director of Patient Financial
Services, and in 1996 she served as manager of Clinic Operations.
Prior to that, Thomas Gordon was assistant director of the
Medical Record Department at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta
from 1980 to 1983, and director from 1983 to 1991. She began
her career as utilization review coordinator for University
Hospital in Augusta, GA, and also served for one year as a
data analyst for the Atlanta Cancer Surveillance Center.
Prior
to being elected an ACHE Governor, Thomas Gordon was the ACHE
Regent for Northern Florida from 2001 to 2005. She served
on the information management task force of the Joint Commission
on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and was the JCAHO
liaison for the American Health Information Management Association.
Thomas Gordon is a past president of the North Central Florida
Healthcare Executives, a past committee chairman of the Georgia
Association of Healthcare Executives, and a past board member
of the Georgia Health Information Management Association and
the Georgia Women Healthcare Executives. In addition, she
is a frequent speaker on national, regional, and state levels
and has served as an instructor for several universities and
colleges, including the Medical College of Georgia and Brown
College, and as a clinical instructor for Emory University
and The Ohio State University.
Board
certified in healthcare management and an ACHE Fellow, Thomas
Gordon received her executive master’s degree in business
administration from Georgia State University, Atlanta, and
her bachelor’s degree in health information management
from the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta.
