Many administrators and managers have trouble effectively addressing disruptive and unprofessional behavior that negatively affects staff performance and patient outcomes. This webinar introduces a new approach that involves training line leaders to apply the respectful, informal, non-disciplinary, consensus-building behavior techniques often used in mediation and negotiation. You’ll learn to resolve many conflicts at the “point of impact” and foster collaboration by modeling respect, the recognition of shared interests and joint problem-solving.

This course will define conflict in healthcare, describe how resolving conflicts can foster collaboration and present specific skills from the legal and mediation disciplines to resolve conflicts effectively. Applied over time, these skills can positively impact engagement, satisfaction, safety and quality of care.

You'll Learn:

  • To better understand the causes, impacts and costs of conflict in healthcare.
  • Techniques for resolving conflicts that also build collaboration.
  • How informal, non-disciplinary resources fit into The Joint Commission-mandated conflict management standards.
  • Systemic and interpersonal barriers to addressing conflict in healthcare culture.
  • The impact of management that considers emotion on healthcare culture.
