You Belong at the Table…but Bring Your Own Chair: Overcoming Imposter Syndrome in the Healthcare Industry

August 6 - September 3, 2025
6 ACHE Virtual Interactive Education credits

Imposter syndrome remains a pervasive challenge within the healthcare leadership community, undermining confidence, hindering professional growth and contributing to burnout and disengagement. This virtual seminar is designed specifically for early and mid-careerist healthcare leaders to identify and address the internalized barriers that imposter syndrome creates.

You will be introduced to a practical five-step framework—the Bring Your Own Chair (BYO Chair) method. This method equips participants with clear, actionable strategies to challenge imposter syndrome and reframe it into opportunities for growth. The seminar also emphasizes how leaders can recognize and support team members experiencing imposter syndrome, reframing these feelings as potential sources of empathy, innovation and resilience.

This seminar provides depth and additional application through real-world scenarios, leadership tools and mentorship strategies.

Seminar Objectives:

  • Explain the concept of imposter syndrome and its impact on healthcare professionals, drawing connections to leadership, burnout and career progression.
  • Describe the five-step BYO Chair framework as a practical strategy to reframe imposter thoughts and foster professional growth.
  • Reflect on personal experiences with imposter syndrome and practice reframing techniques, self-affirmation tools, and boundary-setting strategies.
  • Analyze the role of leadership and organizational culture in reinforcing or alleviating imposter syndrome.
  • Develop a personalized action plan to strengthen confidence, seek mentorship, communicate professional needs effectively and discern when to stay, speak up or step away.
