Leadership Spotlight: Upcoming COVID-19 Webinars and Other Resources

This week, ACHE is offering two free webinars as part of a series providing executive insights about organizational responses to the COVID-19 pandemic. On Wednesday, join two leaders from HCA Healthcare TriStar Division—Heather J. Rohan, FACHE, division president and Immediate Past Chairman of ACHE, and Tama Van Decar, MD, CMO—for a discussion about how their organization is managing capacity, communications, supply chain workforce and tactical challenges across multiple states.

This Friday, join an expert panel for a discussion about how preparation and planning can enhance organizational resilience. The panelists, including William Craig Fugate, chief emergency management officer with One Concern and former Federal Emergency Management Agency administrator, will share lessons learned from previous disasters, best practices for hospital executives and front-line leadership, and tips for what leaders should focus on to recover from the current crisis and prepare for future or concurrent emergencies.

Other panelists joining the discussion are Gregory Ciottone, MD, FACEP, president, World Association for Disaster and Emergency Medicine, associate professor, Harvard Medical School and founder/director, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Fellowship in Disaster Medicine; Attila Hertelendy, PhD, professor, Florida International University and Georgetown University; and Chuck D. Stokes, FACHE, founding partner, Relia Healthcare Advisors, former president/CEO, Memorial Hermann Health System and Past Chairman Officer of ACHE. Recordings of previous webinars and other resources and tools are available at ache.org/COVID.

Additionally, explore our collection of Management Innovations Poster Session narratives from healthcare leaders that offer solutions for increasing capacity in hospitals. Topics include directing patient flow, increasing communication, telemedicine and more.

ACHE Celebrates the Contributions of Volunteers

During National Volunteer Week, April 19–25, ACHE would like to thank the countless volunteers who are lending their time and talent to battling COVID-19. As the healthcare community works tirelessly to understand and mitigate the impact of the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, many organizations have found themselves in need of volunteers to maintain vital programs and initiatives. ACHE has compiled a list of resources to provide organizations with the ability to search for volunteers that best match their needs.

We would also like to thank our members for the many ways in which you give back to each other and our profession through mentoring, supporting local ACHE chapters, and efforts to educate, engage and inspire current and future healthcare leaders. Nationally and locally, our community is strong because of you. Thank you.

Speakers Wanted for 2021 Congress

ACHE is currently accepting speaker proposals for next year’s Congress on Healthcare Leadership. The deadline is May 19.

The 2021 Congress will be held March 22–25, 2021, at the Hilton Chicago/Palmer House Hilton. Congress sessions focus on the experiences of healthcare leaders, enterprise decision-makers or those implementing new technologies or processes. Proposals generally should be consistent with that focus and any new methodologies, techniques or tools used to support such application. Most importantly, proposals should explicitly describe applicable take-away tools and practical knowledge that will be part of the session.

Preference will be given to proposals that align with the identified topics of interest. Proposals will be reviewed based on their relevancy to current trends and the operational needs of our members.
