Advance Healthcare With Today’s Top Leaders

This year, the in-person Congress on Healthcare Leadership is offering Leadership Insights sessions that will feature leading provider CEOs speaking on a variety of topics, including leadership, strategy, innovation, workforce and operations.

For example, Greg A. Adams, chair and CEO of Kaiser Permanente, will discuss his organization’s approach to building equity and trust as well as best practices in advancing health and safety during times of crisis in “Transformative Leadership: Building Trust and Equity During Unprecedented Times.” Meanwhile, “Innovations in Supply Chain Infrastructure” will feature two leaders offering different perspectives of the top supply chain challenges facing the healthcare industry and successful innovations in supply management.

Join Lloyd Dean, CEO of CommonSpirit Health, as he delves into how current changes in the healthcare field will impact the workforce of tomorrow during “Shaping the Future Workforce,” or Sam Hazen, CEO of HCA Healthcare, as he describes some of the top disruptors of today’s healthcare organizations during “The Healthcare System of the Future.”

Practical Financial Growth Strategies

Which financial growth strategies make sense in a world of uncertainty? Healthcare leaders provide practical answers in the winter issue of Frontiers of Health Services Management.

For example, in one feature story, Avera Health leaders redefine growth as the organization deepens its relationship with patients to increase loyalty and creates efficiencies to control costs and expand services. “The notion of a new future terrifies some people—they would rather hold on to the past. At Avera, we see this as our chance to create a future to our specifications. All we have to do is let go of yesterday and dream about what tomorrow can be,” write Bob Sutton, president and CEO, and Thomas A. Clark, FACHE, chief strategy and growth officer.

Then, another feature addresses how Froedtert Health has boosted market share through smart use of acute care assets and new care models. “As the demand for unique tertiary services at its academic medical center has surged, Froedtert Health is leveraging and enhancing a new community hospital strategy while investing in new capability platforms to complement the health network’s care model across Wisconsin,” write Catherine A. Jacobson, president and CEO, and Scott Hawig, executive vice president of finance and chief financial and administrative officer and treasurer.

ACHE Job Center Relaunch and Phishing Alert

The Job Center has relaunched with enhancements, including an improved search functionality, new look and feel with a contemporary layout and navigation, and a simplified job-posting process for employers posting multiple positions and seeking increased visibility.

As employment-related phishing scams continue to increase not only in frequency but also in degree of sophistication, a detailed Job Center Phishing Alert has been posted to reinforce security efforts. Although heightened account monitoring and verification processes are in place, we encourage all ACHE members to familiarize themselves with best practice regarding the online job search process.

If you experience any questionable activity, please contact Gina T. LaMantia, director of the Career Resource Center, by calling (312) 424-9444 or emailing GLaMantia@ache.org.

CMS Requests Input on Changes to Organ Transplantation System

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is seeking public comments regarding organ transplantation and dialysis facility quality of care. In a request for information issued Dec. 1 through the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, HHS said it is seeking stakeholder and public feedback to inform potential changes and future rulemaking to improve the organ transplantation system and to try to enhance the quality of life of those living with organ failure. CMS is focused on identifying potential system-wide improvements that would increase organ donations, improve transplants, enhance the quality of care in dialysis facilities, increase access to dialysis services and advance equity in organ donation and transplantation.

Because of inequities in organ transplantation, CMS is asking the public for specific ideas on advancing equity within the organ transplantation system, particularly on potential changes to the health and safety standards for transplant programs, end-stage renal disease facilities and organ procurement organizations. Specifically, CMS seeks feedback from those on organ transplant waitlists, transplant recipients and their families, living donors and those who sign up to be posthumous donors, families of donors, and chronic kidney disease and ESRD patients. This feedback will help inform future regulatory requirements that transplant programs, OPOs and ESRD providers and suppliers would need to meet to participate in the Medicare and Medicaid programs.
