Earn Credits at Congress to Recertify Your FACHE® Credential
This year’s 2021 Congress on Healthcare Leadership will offer Fellows of ACHE an opportunity to earn up to 12 ACHE Face-to-Face Education credits. Fellows are required to recertify their credential every three years. However, in response to challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, ACHE extended deadlines for Fellows whose credentials were set to expire in 2019 and 2020; those recertification classes now have until March 31, 2021, and Dec. 31, 2021, respectively, to recertify.
Fellows whose credential is set expire can stay on track to recertify in three easy steps:
- Completing continuing education activities or retaking and passing the Board of Governors Exam.
- Completing four volunteer activities.
- Paying the recertification fee of $200 when you submit your recertification application.
You can learn more about the recertification process by visiting ache.org/FACHE and selecting the Maintain/Recertify My FACHE option from the menu.
Additionally, if you are over the age of 60 and will retire within the next five years, you may be eligible for a one-time only five-year recertification waiver. For more information, please contact Customer Service at (312) 424-9400 or contact@ache.org.
Current Fellows who are in good standing and are retired from healthcare leadership may transfer to Retired Status or Life Status. Learn more about the FACHE(R) and LFACHE designations here.
Students and Host Sites: Register for the 2021 Summer Enrichment Program
Registration is open for the American Hospital Association’s Institute for Diversity and Health Equity’s 2021 Summer Enrichment Program. The Summer Enrichment Program grows and strengthens the pipeline of healthcare leaders from underrepresented groups, and places diverse graduate students pursuing advanced degrees in healthcare administration or a related field in 10-week, paid internships across the country. Internships generally will take place from June through August.
ACHE and the Institute are co-promoting the SEP to increase the number of students who participate in the SEP each year and, accordingly, increase the number of host sites. Just as students benefit from experiential learning, healthcare organizations that register to become host sites gain access to the healthcare leaders of tomorrow—former SEP interns are now CEOs and administrators of hospitals and healthcare organizations nationwide.
Summer Enrichment Program host sites can accelerate the healthcare field’s efforts to diversify its workforce, leadership teams and governing boards, which contribute to improved patient care for all. Help strengthen equity and inclusion in healthcare organizations—learn more and register today.
Journal of Healthcare Management Explores Population Health
More hospitals are adopting population health strategies in an effort to work toward the Triple Aim framework for better healthcare at reduced costs. However, researchers found that hospitals define population health in different ways, which could have implications for developing strategies to improve outcomes, according to an article in the May/June 2020 issue of the Journal of Healthcare Management. This piece and others constitute the JHM population health collection, which aggregates the best articles and content from the Journal’s 65-year history on this topic. Other articles in the collection address topics such as how data-driven population health is shaping a new model of primary care, strategies for healthcare leaders to pursue regarding social determinants of health and how clinical integration is a cornerstone for population health management.

International Organizations to Offer Virtual Conference on Hospital Workers’ Well-being
The COVID-19 pandemic is taking a significant toll on people’s well-being, especially that of hospital workers and other health service providers, who have been working in a prolonged crisis situation. As the pandemic continues, these healthcare professionals will need enhanced support to mitigate the effects of the pandemic on their health. On Feb. 23, the International Hospital Federation and International Society for Quality in Health Care are collaborating to offer a virtual conference, Hospital Workers’ Wellbeing Matters. This event will provide IHF members and the wider community insights on healthcare workers’ well-being and an opportunity to hear about innovative interventions from industry leaders around the world. Prospective attendees can learn more about this conference and register for it here. If you have questions about this event, please contact forum@ihf-fih.org.
